Over one billion apps downloaded in a week

Damn son! If you're hitting 1% of that total of apps downloaded and peeps were paying - you're smiling :D

The boys from Rovio say there were 6,5 million Angry Birds downloads on Christmas day alone... at $0,99 per game from the iTunes store that's one HUGE Christmas stocking for them.

There are free versions of all three Angry Birds games in the iTunes store as well but I haven't bothered with a "lite" version of an app for a while now. Still, 10 or 15% of 6,5 million downloads at $0,99... Eish!

On Android the light version has adds and the pay for one you don't. So its either you pay them up front or they get add revenue, either way they will be smiling all the way to the bank.

And yes app development is where it is at. Just be carefully as there is just as many people that went broke as there are people that stuck it rich. Best is to work for a company as a developer, prefably one that has an app as a added service to something they allready have.

Yip! Spotted that too. And then also consider that iTunes takes 30% off the top for themselves from that. Can't recall the Android Market's cut. Merry days indeed!

It would interest to me to know if they make more money on the free one or bought one :D. Hmmm

Last article I saw on the subject stated that the add revenue was higher.

Will see later if I can find it again.

Just read on MacRumours that Epic Games who introduced Infinity Blade 2 at the beginning of December made $5 million from the game over December and have made more than $30 million from the Infinity Blade franchise so far...

That's what I expected. The paid version is a once off payment, while the advert version will be recurring payment for as long as we are playing the game, which should yield more profits if they make the game long enough to hold our attention. Imagine how much money Rockstar would make in that way for GTA! (and they can embed the adverts as part of the city)
