Overlay "blocker" for Chrome - Any suggestions

You know those annoying overlays that won't let you view more content because you have an adblocker. And the other ones that allow you to view content but because you don't have an account or have not logged in, they place a thick strip across the browser window so you have to scroll every few lines.

I have uBlock Origins. You can block elements but it does not work well with blocking overlays.

Any suggested extension?

I see that "Poper" Blocker is quite popular but I've read that there are privacy concerns regarding that extension.

Sure, I'll post some screengrabs.

When browsing public pages on Facebook you first get this:


If you decline, you can continue browsing entirely but with the thick strip at the bottom:


Another example is Twitter. You can freely browse a public page:


But if you want click on on some tabs, like "replies" then you get an overlay:


There are some other sites that also have these pop-up overlays that you can dismiss, but they are an annoyance and would be nice if you could have them automatically blocked.

Poper Blocker does the job apparently, but I am just concerned about its security.

Greasemonkey. But you'll have to write a custom script for less common ones.

You should be able to find one for FB & Twitter pretty easily.

Basically it allows JavaScript to run which alters the page DOM, removing or hiding anything. Some are a bit tricky, and require setTimeout or setInterval to call the script a bit after the page has loaded. I think FB is like that?

I wouldn't use it.

Yeah, my concern exactly. There may be others, like how you get many adblockers. So if anybody can suggest a reputable overlay-blocker, it would be much appreciated.

@scudsucker that would solve the issue definitely, but I am looking for an extension that uses pre-defined lists similar to adblockers. The less manual intervention required, the better.

Personally I just climb into the source/inspect element and kill whatever bugs me there (if it is a once-off thing). Did not know that dedicated tools/apps/plugins existed for this...

It might not work because it hasn't been updated in more than a year but it's open source available on Github so it's safe to use.

Edit: That twitter one is really annoying, I can't seem to get past it, the only way to do it seems to be to do this:

and where news24 you put in the Twitter handle you want to see.

Gave it a shot. Works on FB, as soon as an overlay pops up, you just click on the icon and it kills the overlay. Did not work on Twitter, I guess on Twitter it is not an overlay, but actually needs you to login to view some content.

Browsed some news websites and got no overlay requests to turn off ublock either.

So far so good. Hopefully it holds up.
