Hey guys we had a huge thunder storm over the weekend ...Saturday i couldnt do anything basicly ...the line didnt drop ...but couldn't download anything or even browse basicly ...Phoned on sunday...techie came out on Monday ..he switched the ports on the dslam and things are better but not how they were...Wierd thing was my snr margin for my upstream was always better than my down stream ...now its like this
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin 11.0 dB 7.5 dB
Line Attenuation 57.5 dB 36.5 dB
CRC Errors 0 0
Latency Unknown Unknown

Ok im posting this in bad weather i must add...my downstream is now usually 11-15db ..but my up stream is like this most of the time where it was usually 14db.

Im getting this reading.
ATM connection
Port Name a1 Active TRUE
Rx VPI 8 Tx VPI 8
Rx VCI 35 Tx VCI 35
Rx Packets 113382 Tx Packets 357209
Rx Bad Packets 3021 Tx Bad Packets 0

Can it be my router?

That helps jack *****.

Your SNR sucks though.

... Please give helpful comments....Obviously my snr sucks...... Coz im 4.5km from exchange!

Well the techies said it was clear but i can hear some noise.... :(

What speed are you running at? 4mbps?
Your line attenuation is too high to have a stable 4Mbps connection.

I've got the same problem as you m8. trying to sort my line... got klapped by lightning, techie revealed that the department in Telkom that deals with the grounding of DP boxes are not doing their job (the techie reports that the box is not grounded, but they never get down to doing it). That causes severe inductance on the line because it can travel for many kilometers without being grounded, and then come this time of the year when there are thunderstorms, and your line doesnt stand a chance. Techie was at my house today, fixed my line, 2 hours after he left it started making 'scratchy' noises on the phone, now it's completely dead and my dsl is syncing over 1 wire (half speed, lots of packet loss). sounds pretty much identical to your problem! nothing much we can really do but try squeeze as much trickle of a service from Telkom as we can...
