Hey Guys!

My girlfriends blue ford fiesta took a bit of a hit this afternoon.

Fortunately the damage has been isolated exclusively to the rear passenger door.

Managed to get all the offending car's paint off of my girlfirend's car, and now just the dent remains.

Neither of us are car boffins by any means, and would really appreciate if someone could possibly give us an estimate of the costs involved with just the panel beating alone, as opposed to going in the to the panel beaters tomorrow not knowing anything.

Here is a link to the image of the car: http://imgur.com/a/wi0vQ

Also, if anyone could suggest a reliable/affordable panel beaters in the pretoria area, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks again in advance for the help.

If you have insurance report it to them and let them handle it.

Even if you don't want to claim from insurance, report it to them.

If you don't they could repudiate any of your claims later down the line...

Also make sure you report it to the police.

Panel beaters don't really beat the panels anymore, they just replace it. I would guess new door and paint ~R20 000

Goto the scrap yards and try find another door rather. Maybe you will.be lucky and find the same colour

R10k per panel including getting the paint blended across panels. I just had my door fixed at Auto Magic in Sandton and their service id pretty decent

Lolwut?

Panels are only replaced under some manufacturers' very strict guidelines, or where the metal has been creased or folded to such an extent that an acceptable repair is unlikely. For decent work you can expect to pay somewhere between R2k and R5k per panel, and it's worth the effort to shop around a bit. It's a good tactic to pass by a franchise dealer or three and ask the pre-owned managers who they would send your car to if they were to hypothetically trade it in.

They do typically just replace the door unless its a very minor dent, the level of damage does look borderline door write off.

Sounds about right. Some drunk reversed into a mates A4, did not look serious at all, minor dent. Reported to police & lodged a claim with insurance, got 3x quotes all around R18-19k and he had to pay excess. Got a quote from a local scratch & dent place which was not registered with the insurance for about R3k but they refused to pay R3k and would rather pay R19k, told then to get stuffed and paid the scratch & dent place out of his pocket, you cant even see they worked on the door.

Door skin needs to be replaced.

Your issue now is that the skin only will be painted which will obviously show.

Good luck!

Give Sonic and Laborius a call, they will both be able to quote from the image (if you push a little).

Agree with this estimate. You may get some discount on direct payment.

Personally I prefer when the car gets old enough to ignore dents like this.

^ this.

replacing the door, and getting the new colour to match will be a mission, even experienced panel beating shops will struggle to match that blue correctly because the existing paint would have probably got burnt-in with the sun which changes the tone one or two tones dark/light.

Hi i have a guy who specializes in theses, His business is also mobile, he comes to you, very reasonable too

Email him the pic and he will come back to you with a quote : [email protected]

Tell him Neo has referred you

I guess I am lucky then... A honda Jazz tailgate - original from Honda costs about R5500. With the painting, costs an extra R2k.

Some nice guy in a bakkie left me with a lovely dent when he reversed into me in a parking lot and drove away - caught him on the Security Camera though.

I know this is a old thread but I'll like to ask usually after the panel beater the car and paint. What else do they do I'm desperate here, took my car to a panel beater here on Monday. So far I know Thursday they were painting the car Friday I don't know what they were doing.

Weekends they don't work I'm desperate I need my car back, I'm struggling when I go to work. I think maybe tomorrow the will polish the car after polish what do they do??????.

Polish and then reassembly if the panel/part was stripped off the vehicle. They use fast drying 2k paints and UV lights or heat so drying time isn't the issue..
