You can still load everything on via 400 for now - so suck it up and be a man.

Why would they have a 6 pin on one end? AFAIK you cant get 800 speeds out of that.Doesn't sound right... have they given u the FW400 drive by mistake.
Looks to me like the FW cable should have a FW800 9 pin on one end and FW400 6 pin on the other.

OK... thought I read in the specs it was a 1394/1394b cable? Or did they mean either a FW400 or FW800 cable?
In which case ur outa luck.![]()
Could be some power saving utility - my new external kept wanting to sleep until I found a way of keeping it active. Every minute a cron job runs and that seems to do the trick.Well well well, USB2 ... ppfff. What a load of rubbishthe overhead for USB2 must be something out of this world. Running the external on FW400, and on guestimate, I would say it is at least 2 times faster than the USB2 setup.
One problem though: it would appears as if the MBP is killing power to the external HDD for some reason. System shut down twice in the last couple of minutes
EDIT: Maybe the power management is messing it up because I am running off battery?
Well this is the cron job that runs every minute -Seems to be something like that. Running the new chassis on USB now, and although **** slow, it stays alive at least![]()
ls /Volumes/External/ > /dev/null
Is that parallels or bootcamp?I'm running my M$ XP on my external, not too shabby speed wise.

Parallels and using USB.
See my post about USB vs FW400 ... it is really worth the money/effort to invest in a FW chassis
