I am looking at replacing my current car for various reasons and found what looked to be a great candidate last week Friday at a local dealership. I went to see the car and besides some minor wear and tear it is in good condition for it's age and mileage is really low for it's age. The price asked for the car is in the ballpark as is the trade offered on my car but I discovered today that either a service has been missed or it was done but not captured on the brands national system. It is a minor interval service so should just be oil, oil filter, sump plug and washer with the next major service having been done in June this year which included a brake fluid flush, front and rear pads, all filters, oil, etc, etc.

The dealership selling vehicle is hunting for the missing service entry but if it doesn't turn up I need to decide if I want the car or not. I have bought many cars with little to no service history in the past but none have been daily drives that I rely on to get around. Any thoughts?

Has it had a service since its "missed" one?

If its had a service recentlyish I wouldn't really worry... I would use it to try knock the dealer down a tad on the price though...

Makes no difference, if something was about to go wrong one minor service would not make any difference.

Thanks and to @Tander, I am not too concerned about something going wrong as the next major scheduled service after the missed minor has been done recently, in June of this year. I do have resale in the back of my mind though, I have owned an Audi before and as all Audi owners know, resale isn't great at the best of times.

It had it's 24 month major service done in June which included brake pads front and rear and brake fluid change.

If you take an extended warranty at extra cost - be weary of them repudiating any future claims because of said missed service.

That is the one issue I have, I haven't approached any of the extended warranty underwriters besides the sales lady approaching Audi SA who initially quoted on a Freeway plan extension but have since stated they can't offer an extension due to the missing service.

Well, it's an Audi; and as you mentioned resale value sucks on them. This would not affect it enough to worry about it imho.

I've just purchased a car with a 3rd party extended warranty... so long as the missed service is noted, and the vehicle has been brought up to date with a recent full service, most of them are all good.

Yeah, been there done that, took a bit of a bath when I sold my B6 A4 Avant. My plan is to keep my next car fro quite some time so it shouldn't be too big an issue.

I'll do some research in the morning, from what I have heard and read, this car doesn't have too many issues and I know people in the motor industry who can assist with maintenance, parts, repairs, etc.

If its still under warranty, as others have said , check with the service plan types.

If not, have the vehicle checked out by your local mechanic. When I bought my second hand, I had mine do a minor service there and then to ensure everything was good. Only cost you some fluids and labor and considering you buying a car, worth it for the peace of mind.

no service is sometimes as good if not better than a stealership service

Warranty is long gone, the car is five years old next month and sadly my go to mechanic is now in Canada. I'll see if the mechanic at the dealership who services my current can have a look, they may not be able to but worth a try. The scheduled major service after the missed minor was at least done, two years/19k km's later.

I just didn't feel comfortable going ahead with buying a car without FSH and little to no details as to why the service was missed. Especially since the cambelt service is due soon and I have no idea if the DSG service was done according to the schedule.

Oh woah.. ok.. DSG box and you aren't sure it was serviced according to schedule... you made the right call walking away then in my opinion.

If it was just a service that was missed, and had been caught up it would be a different story..

Yeah, I hadn't thought about the DSG service but a friend pointed it out as the car is five years old next month and on 67k km's so a DSG service should have been done.
