hey forum,
I am borrowing my external to a friend so he can organise me some files etc.I have a quite large folder on my external full of personal pics and videos that I don't want him seeing obviously (not pron, that he can help himself to :D ) . Is there software that I can use to password lock specific folders on an external or anything along those lines?
I would cut the folder off for now but I don't have time to. In normal situations I would jut hide the folder and put it into 10 dummy folders, but I know this guy is not so easy to fool :erm:

I might end up not giving him the external and will borrow his instead but I was thinking about this all morning. I google and found TrueCrypt? I am not too confident in software that encrpyts the whole drive..that scares me a little. Anyways your suggestions would be appreciated,as always ;)

Yea, TrueCrupt is the way. Its not quick tho. It will take time to encrypt the whole lot.

I tried TC for a brief while a few months ago.

I used to work with security, and I like the idea of encryption, but it scares the bejesus out of me knowing I only have 'that' copy of the data.

One day something went awry with the setup and I lost a fair bit of data because it was set as encrypted but would not decrypt.

The other thing is, what happens when the power cuts? It will.

Rather get his HDD...and if it's virus-laden or out of space, it's his loss. I no longer give anybody anything anymore.
