Hi all,

So does anyone know of a software or add on you can use to password/encrypt individual PDF files with individual passwords?

Basically I have a whole bunch of PDFs for individual people and I want to password lock them with their ID numbers and hopefully not have to do it manually 2000 times.

Exporting to a zip file would work as well.

Thanks

Adobe Acrobat does this.

However, be aware that password protecting PDFs is security theatre at best, it's very easy to crack the password.

There are a number of websites that will perform the password avoidance service for you.

Thanks, is it in the base app or an add on? Cause I found an add on that does it but couldn't figure out how to do it in the base app.

Also yeah it's an exercise in perceived security.

  1. Like Dischem does? See if you can somehow get hold of their techies, and ask them.
  2. Use LibreOffice Draw (free). Open the pdf in Draw and export again as pdf, and include a password upon export in the security tab.
  3. MS Word can do the same, I think.

Example of what you can set in terms of security with Adobe, it says 128 bit encryption but don't know if its really that good

Thanks.

Ended up using 7zip and basically making it zip and password lock the individual files over and over again.
