Hi guys,

My problem:
The Microsoft SWL database may not be running. Please start Microsoft SQL from the Pastel My Business Service icon located in the notification area on your taskbar.

Pastel's Call Centre:
After being put through to 6 different people and spending 30mins on the phone just to get a voice on the other side that can actually assist me I ended the call and tried fixing the problem, but alas the fix didnt last very long.

Does anyone know why I keep on getting this error message and why, when i click Start MY SQL for Pastel My Business, I still cant get it to work?

Thanks!
BB

Did it work before and just suddenly stop working?

If so, try do a System Restore to when it was still working. Otherwise the official answer would be to un-install the whole thing, reboot and reinstall from scratch.

Also: Check your Services (run: services.msc)
See if the SQL services are all running
Try a different Anti-virus just incase. (Would suggest Avast. PS: I've found Nod32 can mess up Pastel networking)

Unfortunately, knowing Pastel I won't be surprised if it still doesn't work. If you don't have a lot going on the PC, a Windows reload might be the easiest way out.

I've found some of the most bizarre issues be the root cause of Pastel problems which takes a lot of bloodsweat and tears to fix, especially as you're pretty much on your own since there's basically zero online support to help out.

Conack:
It just suddenly stopped working.

Have done a Restore and Re-Install and it worked once and then started its nonsense again.

I am using Avast.

My laptop is brand spanking new i5 core so no trouble in running Pastel as it runs Adobe Suite without a problem.

After installing Windows it does those lovely Updates and after doing the last one it started giving me this problem. Thus the restore, that didn't help me either.

Darn it!

Skandalis:

Garsh, I'm clever but not that clever! What do I do when I view the events? haha

Might just be Avast... at least thats my few cents worth.

Theres a piece of software that gets used around the office here. The problem is that everything works great, until you need to use one specific function... if you have Avast or 1 other commonly known anti-virus installed, the application throws back an error and the module fails to start. But it works fine with every other AV installed.
Oh, and adding exceptions in every possible place doesnt work either (although with the other AV product it did). Theres a known issue with avast and this software. Ended up finding a new AV product for the office windows machines.

Anyway, to summarise: try (safely) disabling your AV, and then see if that doesnt work...

Skandalis: Checked again no red x's under applications.

wishblade: Garsh this is such a nuisance! Will try the AV.

Ok, so I havent had a second round of testing yet, but i think I found the problem.

It happens when the Installation disc is in the DVD drive *facepalm*, will see what happens next time the computer gets a restart.

Thanks so much guys!

Doesn't make much sense why that should be an issue...

Hi There,
Let us know what happens when the DVD is not in place. I suspect you will still get the problem again.
Pastel although common in South Africa is not a product that I have done a lot of work with but have you approached your Pastel Partner (reseller) rather than Softline for assistance?

Regards

Tim

Is this the very old Pastel Business V3 that you're running in Windows 10?

Don't think we'll be able to give you much help with the log file only - will need some more context of when and where this is happening.

Please help Patel Business v3 give error details and close down attached is the logfile
<ERROR> 10 Softline.Pastel.Common.MyBusiness.Helpers.ServiceHelper`1 - Service Keep Alive Error. ServiceName: IBackupRestoreService, Errorcount: 2
System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: Could not connect to net.tcp://localhost:2573/BackupRestore.
Something else is supposed to be running that it connects to probably, you should talk to Pastel.

I have been using Pastel My Business since March 2013.

It was working well. Suddenly the Customer statements stopped working, crashing the program and giving me an long error (like joeyuys had last year).

I think what broke it was I recently upgraded from Win 10 2004 to Win 10 21H2...

I dug out the CD and ran the install program again. It needed a reboot but after that its running the Customer Statements again...
