Hi All,

1) Do you get free e-mail address when you are pay as you go.

2) How do you recharge to get correct data bundel.
I use my current pay-as-go sim card, from my phone.
I got a spare sim with the data card. Both are working.

Regards

1). Yes. You need to register on Vodacom4me and activate the Free Email option.

2). Not sure what you mean? You either load the exact amount of Airtime that the Data Bundle costs, or you load more airtime than it costs.

Hi Im3G;

When I purchase prepaid phone voucher I need to convert normal air time to data bundle. How do you do without a phone.

Regards

There only 1 other way. You use the SMS Client of your Dashboard. You create a new SMS, and you SMS the message MyMeg X to the number 100(where X is, is the Data Bundle you want to purchse - for example "MyMeg 500").

Yes, but take our collective advice and use GMail instead.

Stop buying pre-paid vouchers, and instead use Internet Banking or ATMs to purchase pre-paid credit for your modem's SIM Card, then as Iam3G pointed out you can use SMS from the modem dashboard s/w to buy a PPDB using the SIM Card's airtime credit, you could also use MDMA with USSD, and you could also use www.vodacom4me.co.za.

Best to read v3g's sticky FAQ thread in this forum.

I think it should be explained that the freebie e-mail address you can have from Vodacom is web-based only (if I'm not mistaken and it hasn't changed since last I asked?) so that you can't use it with a normal e-mail 'client' (e.g. Outlook Express) but only by going onto the Voda site on the Web. Which is a pain in the posterior if you're thinking of using it for any serious sort of traffic.

I think Gmail does indeed allow 'POP' access -- i.e. using a dedicated e-mail program. And there may be other freebie POP mailboxes out there?

That is incorrect.

You can set up Vodacom's Free Email Service in Outlook/Outlook Express.

Tks for that, good to know! These days you can get free e-mail addresses with a box of cornflakes, as it were (MWeb, for example, advertises five free additional mailboxes with some of its packages and it's only when you dig deeper they admit they are all web-based, which is a pain), and I think ISPs are too slow to explain the difference to newbies.
