Pay-TV options from DStv and TopTV compared

Poor TopTV...

Then again, they are so cheap I might consider them out of sympathy for a month or so.

This article is probably just filler content for the lack of articles during the festive season. It is just a modified version of previously published articles. Anyway, Dstv mobile has 9 channels and not 11

Why is it so hard to find pricing for the HD PVR 4 tuner decoder? It doesn't seem to be available anymore. Or it's not being advertised online.

How come there is only one column for Top TV, when they do have other packages with more channels?

Packages Price Channels
Variety R 99 23 Channels + an audio channel
Variety, Kids and Music R 159 38 Channels
Variety, Entertainment and Knowledge R 159 35 Channels
Variety, Kids and Music, Entertainment and Knowledge R 189 49 Channels
Variety, Kids and Music, Ultimate Movies R 220 44 Channels
Variety, Entertainment and Knowledge, Ultimate Movies R 220 41 Channels
Variety, Kids and Music, Entertainment and Knowledge, Ultimate Movies R 249 55 Channels

+1 cos the writer has an interest in DSTV or is ignorant or just hurried out an article before Christmas shut down.
I go with the latter...

What about an article about..........
The different speeds for internet access in SA
The different ISP's in SA
The best Torrent Sites for Saffas
This should be help you going inventing news for at least another 24 hour cycle.
Ag, just joking, not your fault that it is silly season, at least I have another picture to look it when I reload mybroadband site

Once TopTV introduces SyFy, Comedy Central or a cool horror channel all you DStv fans can shove your overpriced ripoff wannabe monopoly where the sun don't shine.

The R99 DSTV package was launched a few days before Top TV. Only EasyView existed sub R100 prior to launch.

Is there any way i could get Bloomberg without having to subscribe to the premier bouquet of DSTV?

Dstv gets us to pay premium price for a channel that is free to air in other regions and I'm sure there is more channels included in what they count as part of their '90 channels' (including, amongst others, zone reality, Fashion Tv, Mindset Learn, Cbeebies, Kids Co, ESPN Classic, most news channels, most specialist channels). It may not be your favourites but you might watch some a bit and if you subtract them you really don't get 90 channels. But then again that's the beauty of Monopoly.

DSTV Premium with PVR is not R529 as listed in the table - you have to add the R65 "PVR access fee" that also increases every year. The price is actually R594 per month which is bloody expensive and can rather pay for my uncapped Axxess ADSL subscription.

Also it is not just about the amount of channels but rather the quality thereof. The cheaper DSTV offering are K.A.K. Here, TopTV blows them out of the water. I won't argue that DSTV premium is mostly awesome sauce, but at that price I will stick with TopTV and download anything else if the need arises.

why doesn't toptv include these? has it to do with satellite orientation?

sigh .... this was a really poorly written piece, where are all the details about the packages???

The only reason that I'm still with Multichoice is for the sport.

All the normal series shows can be downloaded from eztv (and much more), the movie channel seems to be stuck in a 24hr cycle (not unlike toptv - just way more overpriced).

Other than sport there is nothing on dstv which can't be found elsewhere, as soon as we get genuine broadband in SA at affordable prices, I'll subscribe to an online sports channel and stream all my sports live from there.

So guess in who's best interest it is to make sure we never move towards real broadband in SA?
