Hey

The paypal debit card works like any other debit card, online or at an ATM to withdraw cash, anywhere in the world where master/visa is accepted. However, paypal will not issue you a debit card with a SA Residence address or Bank Account.

So there is no way i can use my Visa Electron debit card to purshase things off ebay at all.
I dont think the card can be linked to paypal

You can use a Visa cheque card with paypal. I've got an FNB gold cheque card and have bought many things off Ebay with it.

I reffered to the paypal debit card in my previous post. I am sure you would be able to purchase stuff from ebay with it, if you have one. Most online dot com stores accepts paypal as payment method. You may want to check the payment methods that ebay accept? Stores that accept paypal as a payment method, you can pay directly from your paypal account as well, without having to have a card. As for other debit/credit cards, I'm sure ebay accepts them if they master/visa.

You unfortunately can't use a traditional South African debit card - you will need a cheque card or credit card.

Ahhhh! Being a student and applying for a credit card will be near impossible. Do those cheque cards work just like debit cards?

So it is essentially impossible for a student to verify a paypal account as paypal does not accept our S.A debit cards but does however accept cheque cards. Iv been hunting around and looks like you need a salary to apply for one.

That is correct, unless you get a parent or guardian to vouch for you.

Moneybookers actually looks like the way to go for us S.A people as it allows EFT. Ebay is supposedly supporting it but im busy reading up if Ebay now to see if its been implemented already. All im seeing is just paypal everywhere

OK... i give up.
Moneybookers sounds great but at the end of the day its the seller who gets decide payment option and Paypal is the way to go.

But wait!! If you are a student you qualify for a silver student cheque account with silver student credit card from absa!!

Go to your ABSA and apply, some branches such as Kollonade are open on Sundays

I am a student and I have a Cheque account,I can shop online with it and have a verified paypal account with it. Its a mastercard and is cheque.

Just go into a standard bank Branch and ask them for a student cheque account. The account works just like a debit account!

Hope I helped "_"

I just want some clarification on all of this. I am with FNB and have a savings debit card and a silver cheque card linked to a visa (Has a visa logo on it), now from what i have read and understand the savings debit card wont work but the FNB silver cheque account will work with Paypal to do transactions and to verify my Paypal account?

Please clarify

Thanks :)

Well the previous posts said the cheque card would work, how much more verification are you going to get?

Just try it and see. Nothing bad will happen other than it not working.

I know someone in hong kong.. would she be able to sign up to paypal for me? without a creditcard? ie. she takes no risks ?

I have no idea, I think that cause a lot of problems though, I wouldn't do that.

Maybe if she gets her own paypal account and pays for everything in her name, but her signing up for you I think that could cause problems.

She could. There could be problems however. If you want to sign up for subscription services - ie where no physical address is necessary - it won't be a problem. Except that PayPal may check your IP address. In that case you'd need to use a proxy or VPN tunnel with HK based IP address. For all purchases of physical goods, PayPal makes its sellers ship to its registered address (address linked to the CC). If they don't - PayPal won't cover them for fraud. She'd be receiving your goods in the post.

The easiest way is to sign up for a CC with a local bank. You can get a student CC with a low limit. It should work then.
