Paypal debit card confusion

Whats the problem? All you need is a cheque (debit) card. It must say either VISA or MASTERCARD on it. visa electron, and maestro will not work.
 
Cheque cards are not entirely the same as debit afaik, but similar as they debit the cash from the account in real time sort of. Afaik they do work with Paypal from here, not 100% sure. Still afaik cheque cards have a relatively steep monthly fee, not good for someone who only wants to use pp once in a while.
 
im using a (nedbank Go banking) debit mastercard thats linked to my paypal account and never really had a problem, I even received a refund from a seller last month who couldn't ship me an item due to damage.
 
Guys. Here is some advice. GET A NEDBANK MZANZI account. Its a savings account but its gets kinda reconised as a current account although its not cause you don' even need to have a proof of residence to open the account. just your ID. You get a Visa Debit card. It works with paypal. I will give you a screenshot and a screen of a verified paypal account I'm buy with this card. I can't believe it actually worked. I use it like a credit card without actually having a credit card. Its awesome! Nedbank Mzanzi Account

Ohh and the Nedbank Mzanzi account has NO monthly fees. So its uber nice for buying stuff online. The card actually works like a credit card but you get the denied if you don't have the funds in your account.

Here is a screenshot of the card for the Mzanzi account. But you have a choice of 5 different coloured cards. I just chose this one.

Yes it does. I bought a hostgator.com account using the visa card as a credit card and the transaction was successful and bought a VPS through santrex.net using the credit card as payment and it wen through. So its like a credit card but you need the funds in the account.

I noticed now on my statement that paypal refunded me R16 for the $1.95 they deducted that you need to verify your account. Cool. So you can receive payments too by just giving your card number to people. Not wise but it looks like you get the full flexibility of a credit card but you need the funds to transact with it. Its actually a nice account.

Ohh and for the people that are opening it. You might wanna take the internet/cellphone banking option too. Its free and also take the eNote option. its R2 a month which sends you a sms of all transactions on your account. Its handy cause the statement take about 6-12hours to update. So the sms will allow you to verify your account immediately. :-) And its nice too see how much got deducted.

Mzansi is meant for the unbanked. You'll be denied if they know you have an existing Current / Savings account. I would suggest you say it's the first account you ever opened

I have a mzansi account. Paypal won't accept my card.

This is what i get.
"This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer's customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card."

Paypal and South Africa

I have a Debit Card from Bidvest Bank that works just fine with Paypal. Getting money from Paypal into my regular bank account is a problem though. I can also not link my Payoneer Card to my Paypal account for some obscure reason. Maybe I should contact them (Payoneer) about it. :D

Lol i had to make an account here just to tell other people who see this that if they had been wanting a paypal account long like i had but cudnt just open a fnb account. i saw that most of their accounts have a card security code (csc) which is what us south africans need for paypal but most banks dnt have it so we cant get stuff online lol. anyways its not online a gold fnb cheque account like that 1st guy thought cos he already had that. Anyways whoever sees this can check fnb online and will see im right...

The new Capitec savings account cards works like a charm with Paypal. Just ask them to enable online shopping.
