So I have just upgraded to an Asus p8z77 Pro and i7 3770k with original Asus AMD HD 6870 and Corsair HX 650watt PSU.. but my Antec 300 case is feeling very cramped and cluttered. The question is, and I ask here cos I have done some search but still cannot decide, is what is the best none flashy, simple, well thought out case for up to R1200 out there, I need cable management, lots of air flow (CPU at 90 degrees+ when OC'ed O_o!), bottom placed PSU and lastly place to put liquid cooling ie. Corsair H60/80, H100. All advice is appreciated

I too searched for long time to find the perfect case. I think i have it now.

Its the Gigabyte Sumo 5112

http://www.gigabyte.co.za/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3040#kf

Its a big case (and 11kgs heavy), with plenty of headroom in there to fiddle about. What i really like about it is its looks. It doesn't feel gaudy or kitsch as some of the cases out there i have seen. It has a really nice brushed steel front, usb's on top and best of all, comes with with an external drive case that you can slap a 2.5" drive in and that slots right into the front of the case. Great for quickly transporting data. (and place enough of liquid cooling)

Its R1199ex Vat at Rectron. If you don't have an account just PM me and i can order it for you. Just cash when you collect.

Cheers

Roddy

Silverstone Raven Rv-02 Have same Cpu and had Gigabyte mobo until it spontaneously combusted. While it ran though I had 2 7970's in it and it was cool and quiet.

How about the Silverstone Raven 02. R1283 at Takealot with free shipping

Has massive airflow and looks crazy. That design just makes sense and it has good cable management. Perfect for Air set ups, not for custom water loops though. And its white so stands out from all the plain old black cases.

My next case for sure

Another nice case is the Aerocool BX-500 I'm running that and you can pick it up for about R1000 if not a bit cheaper, Lots of space inside. I'm running my I7-860 @ 3.6 and runs nice and cool or you can check out their predator case.

Is that external drive that can be inserted hot-swappable (I would assume it is) or do you need to restart the pc for it to pick up drive?

Overall it looks really nice though.

Does not have USB3 port from the specs - so that would rule it out

Again no USB3 - according to the specs

I'm looking for a new case, but it needs to be future proof so any potential case should have at least 1 USB 3 port as standard. 2 Optimal

Otherwise nice looking case

Feel like i;m hijacking your thread - sorry :) was going to start a thread soon similar to this.

But according to your motherboard specs your board has 2 USB 3.0 mid-board ports so getting a case with out USB 3.0 would seem far from optional

4 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue, 2 at mid-board)

http://za.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z77V_PRO/#specifications

huh  Am I the only one confused by this reply :)

The op stated his motherboard model in the intro - it has the option for 2 USB 3.0 ports on the case - so far all the replies are for cases without built in USB3.0

Re me hijacking - I'm assuming the OP will want to get all the functions / ports that he can from the motherboard/...

I think it was the mid board usb ports that sounded just plain strange.

You are referring to the onboard USB 3.0 header. The Raven does come with a USB 3.0 model. Just hard to find more details in SA. Dont think you can install a H100 in it though

There is a cool guy on Carbonite who imports Silverstone stuff. Maybe check with him

I m also looking at getting another case sometime. I have the storm enforcer but that thing resonates like mad and is starting to drive me crazy :wtf:

Got the mid-board bit off the Asus website it is how they describe it :wtf: (2 at back panel, blue, 2 at mid-board)

Why do you rule out a case just because of no USB 3 support?! That is just silly, because you'll always have 2 or more USB 3 ports at the back on the motherboard.

I just got a HAF 912 Advanced and I love it. It's a big upgrade from my previous cm690. Cable routing is tops. It's quite inaudible. Tons of space for watercooling with rubber grommets on the back. Front panel USB3.0 bay. Bottom mounted. 2x200mm fans. Full black interior. Solid feel all round. No vibrations. I'd recommend it highly and I can show a pic of my interior if you'd like.

Ease of use... do you want to have to reach round to the back of your case every time you plug in usb3.0 thumb drive or other portable accessory..

For me that would be a pain in the ass. Considering I use my front ports at least 10 times a day to plug stuff in an out off, it is a feature that is defiantly a must.

But why limit your self by case design - better to have the option even if you don't use it. And in 2 years time 90% of usb devices will be USB3.0 so future proof your build. A case is something you don't buy new with every upgrade, so buy one with features that will last.

Is that external drive that can be inserted hot-swappable (I would assume it is) or do you need to restart the pc for it to pick up drive?

Overall it looks really nice though.

Its hot-swappable. I actually got another case for my office pc as well. I now have the same case at home and office and sharing data between the two with this hot-swappable drive is awesome.
