Not really. Gets repetitive quickly with no variation.

As much as I love my Dota2, there just times where you want to be immersed in a good story.

DJ doesn't seem like a jock anyway.

I'd recommend Skyrim.

It's relatively simple, hellova fun, gives tons of freedom and has a massive modding community.

Nothing beats battlefield 4 for entertainment... Titanfall is also insanely fun and action packed. I don't really do story games though, I have TV for that.

You have to play the half life series, The Elder Scrolls Skyrim is a must, Saints row IV, Metro 2033/Last light,Max Payne 3, Sleeping dogs, BF3 (single player), Just Cause 2, Fallout new Vegas

Not really. Mostly FPS/3rd person shooters. Should be exposing him to multiple genres.

Good reason NOT to buy a console. At R3-4k + extras + games... console is rather pricey for the casual gamer.

Yet most casual gamers use consoles (tablets have taken a huge slice of that market, mind), not the PC?

A console also is a once off cost, unlike a PC, that within a few years needs an upgrade to play the latest and greatest. A decent graphics card alone costs in excess of what PS3 costs, for example.

I'll try out a few of the aforementioned games as well...

You can always get a "console" controller and use that to play the sport games, as sometimes the keyboard and mouse combo is a pain for Sport games.

Is it taboo to mention League of legends here?
I don't like the other "similar-genre" online games, but LoL is kind of like a top view arcade game to me.

I'll second the Mass Effect recommendation. Great story, not overly complicated, fun world.

Here's a list of the games I enjoyed this last year that would seem to fit your criteria:
- Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. Despite not liking the previous 3 games this one sucked me in. The graphics are amazing on high but I'm not sure what settings you'll get. And the story is fun in a best-not-think-about-it-too-hard way.
- Dishonored. The ability to play in your own style is quite compulsive, and the steampunk world and storyline are unique
- Bioshock Infinite. It's got themes and stuff. And you don't need to have played the previous Bioshock games as the universe is different.
