Last night I made a new ystem but couldnt get it to start, the spu fans spins for a second then stops, I've checked that the motherboard is directly touching the pc case, I dont have any thermal paste on the cpu but th eheatsink is installed , could that be the problem ?

no, I doubt it.

I would strip everything down again... to just the mother board in the case.
re-insert the CPU and Fan and RAM... then try booting. The insert one thing at a time until you have it all running.

CPU with heatsink and no thermal paste should start fine, sound like you have a short somewhere or faulty hardware

Well firstly WTF do you have no paste? Your cpu is going to overheat something crazy.

Take everything out put the mobo on a box, reseat one stick of ram and try it outside the box. Make sure all 24 pins are plugged into the mobo and the cpu also has it's power source.

If it still does not work then replace the mobo.

will you please for the love of god list the specs of all the components that you're using.

we cannot make an educated guess as to what the problem might be if we do not know the specs. whoever disagrees with this statement is a noob

i had the same problem with a system a built once where the machine would start up then shut down after a second again and it WAS NOT faulty hardware but just that the mobo required a bios update because it was not factory compatible with the cpu.

Eish, like S775 with AM2 CPU!? :eek::D

no a msi p35 with an e8400 lol . . . atleast in my case

when you plug in the power supply on the mobo, is there any lights that come alive?
also, have you connected the correct power switch cables from the case to the mobo?

No light means no power getting to mobo.
if light on, check the switch cables

I had a similr problem and had not plugged both power plugs into the mobo. One for the mobo, another one that is hiding - smaller one, for the cpu.

Well I had the same thing, and it was a faulty intel board. Just make sure all the power plugs in. If you can find a compatible cpu and ram and it still does it with those then most definitely your board.

can't be just bought a working one, cpu + board, here are the specs, I believe its a short somewhere as I made my lights trip twice :o ,

Here are the specs
MSI MS – 6787VI Motherboard + Intel Celeron 2GHZ CPU + Original HSF

if you'r 12v & 5v mobo is making your lights trip, then you have a faulty PSU.

and now my helpful post... :)

just to make 100% certain you not touching the case somewhere, I would do what he said... put everything together outside the case on a desk or something. watch out for static... dont put it on a pick n pay packet or something!

CPU fan spins for a second and then stops.

1. User turns on power at power switch.
2. Motherboard gets power and lights up .. checks it's state ... it's state is off .. powers down fan and CPU.
3. Motherboard goes into wait state, waiting for ON switch to be pressed.

Perhaps user has not connected motherboard power switch connectors to case power button correctly?

Nevermind the faulty PSU! Lights and wall sockets should NEVER be on the same trip switch lol

but you refer to your power tripping as "lights have tripped" yes/no?
you hardly every say "Plug Points have tripped"

;)
