Hey guys I'm looking at getting pc speakers, now I have been looking at the Creative Gigaworks s750 7.1 & Creative Gigaworks G500 5.1 & Creative Gigaworks G550w 5.1 then there's the Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1

Now which one of these are the best, dont just say the S750 cause its the most expensive. I wanna know hard facts. I dont know why but these systems are all old systems 2003-2005. I also wanna know if there is anything else out there that might be worthwhile or better than these.

I'll be using it for movies;games & music.

Thx for the responses

Hard facts? Well (this is my point of view and i am very much into sound)
For a PC, buying expensive sound isn't the smartest choice... as i currently have a 2.1 system, which Is all I need to listen to new songs, and play games, I use my pc as a media hub, but i find it fine just using my R500 speakers... they sound great, and the sub is great if you want to listen to dance etc...

Now, I firstly don't need a sound card, and the amp divides the sound for me...
Whats the sound going to be used for??? I have A great sound system, In my tv room, and when I have a party, I simply use my 2 concert speakers to really keep things going...

If gaming is what you want then, getting expensive sound really isn't the best as (only some games really use the surround sound thing, and if they do, it a scary game and you shyte your pants)...

If it's media, rather just use a home theater system....

But seriously, i need to know what application these speakers are going to be used for

^^^ what he said.

Pc speakers will never measure up to the real thing. Best is normally to go for a decent 2.1 setup. If music is a big consideration, forget it. The only reason that you would put a logitech z5500 or similar in a lounge situation is if there is a big space consideration. If you are going to be sitting at your desk, and HAVE to have 5.1, the G500 will be more than enough. 7.1 is overrated and unnecessary.

Why do you want 5.1 sound on your pc?

Why do you want 5.1 sound on your pc?

Probably the same reason why people want 5.1 for their dvd player. Maybe he uses his pc for all his needs.

but back on the topic... i got the z5500 and have to say its very impressive. Its also reliable compared to creative, since many people (using creative) have had experiences where their amp just blew. ( many will debate this fact, but none-the-less its still a fact )

Its THX certified (but then again i dont know if the others are/aren't certified)

Ive personally tested its capabilites and holds well with no distortion ( unless you up the db to max on winamp but i have not tried this and i dont think i want to )

Console for controlling sound and inputs is a little bit too big for my liking but thats minor.

If you dont mind less sound ( not much less ) id recommend the logitech range that has the wifi speakers cos man flex is a drag.

7.1 IMO wont be very useful

I also had the Z5500 (got stolen :() and it is fine for a pc speaker. I used it in my lounge with my DVD player and my pc hooked to my LCD TV. So it was allright for listening to music, movies etc. On my desk PC I have a Logitech Z2300, also very nice, total overkill to be honest.

So what I'm trying to say is, if you are going to be sitting in front of your pc most of the time, get a 2.1 system. If you are looking for something to listen to music and watch dvd's from an armchair, something like this will blow all those systems into next week.

Sony has yet to disappoint. Very nice system tho i must say, think its cheaper than mine and 470W more powerful but too late now (not that i regret buying this one cos i dont)

yes well, one only has to turn up that absolutely crazy insane woofer on the z5500 and you feel happy again, eh?

if you are looking for clarity and audio quality then go Creative, however use this in conjunction with a creative sound card.

if you are looking for cheap sounding thrills, silly buttons, and a subwoofer that is way overbalanced then purchase a logitech. (if you get these you can use them with your cheap RealTek onboard sound)

The reality is computer speakers should be designed for a personal experience and not designed to replace the Amp + Loudspeaker setup.

If you want refined, superb quality and audio range then go Creative which are good for just about everything... surround or stereo. Contrary to popular belief you can play music through surround sound speakers, it just comes out stereo - unless ofcourse you have some surround sound psy-trance... ;)

bear in mind if a logitech user thinks sony makes good loudspeakers then you know they actually dont know.

Thx for the responses, I will be using it as an all rounder, not really to play games with my neighbours will kill me, I'm getting the Razor 7.1 headphones for games. So yeah it will probably be used mostly for watching movies & listening to music.

So as I understand from most of you guys, I should rather get a dedicated suround sound system, with amp & everything. But wont that be more costly ? & how much better will the sound be in a small town house. And wont it be a hassle to join up a dedicated system to my pc ?

if you live in a little town house.. your neighbours are gonna have a serious problem when you play the Z5500's.. in my old complex when i used to play it at like half you could clearly here it 3 houses down...

Oh and by the way your wonderful sony home theatre is the same power.. cause its quoted as max power.. and the logitechs actually hava a max power of i think 1050 Watts..

U sure u got it right... think it goes more like "bear in mind if a logitech user thinks creative makes good loudspeakers then you know they actually dont know
:p

I've got a set of Creative T6060s but I'd really like to buy a set of Z5500s, the few times I've been able to listen to them I was blown away :D

well... I dunno... for movies and such, i suppose good speakers would be fine, but your neighbours will be getting blasted so expect them to toilet paper your house

er... i suppose you also think kenwood is good too?

creative do not make loudspeakers. as i mentioned before creative is for a personal experience. to buy sound based on what the neighbours might hear is, lower class thinking, which seems to be a common theme among sef afrekins.

As a frontloader yes, ne thing else i dunno cos as the obvious has been stated i clearly dont own one and dont want to.

i've heard one of those gigabytaworx in action and lemme tell you something

AMAZING

aint no 2.1 sound near that

My opinion is as follows:

Creative:
less reliable (heard of lots of returns and blown amps)
needs lots of tinkering and tuning with a creative sound card to sound "natural".

Logitech:
Sounds good out of the box on any sound card.
MASSIVE PUNCH (that can be tuned down)

I personally own a Z-5500. Combined with my Razer Barracuda AC-1 they are a deadly combination. The Razer card is far superior to any current Creative card. It can upmix 2 channel sound AND OUTPUT IT IN DIGITAL 5.1!!!. Creative decided to skimp and not include the feature.

At that price Creative cant match it. only the much more expensive Gigaworks sets are "better", but not by much and not unless you spend even more bucks on a top end creative card.

funny that cuz my Xi-Fi upmixes to 7.1

so it pisses on your 5.1 surround ;)

EDIT

wait a minute the razer upmixes in DTS... ha! it pisses on my Xi-Fi. Awesome!
but then i got EAX you dont! :P

and besides who the fark wants to upmix music designed for stereo to surround?

logitech's are boom boxes... but hey each to their own.... after all someone has to fool the masses and logitech certainly win there!

nope i have used both sets of speakers. I have never had a Creative fsk out on me. Logitech are all noise no quality.

But it is up to the user at the end of the day.

Creative will always get my vote.

So what you guys are saying is Creative is better sound quality, & the Logitech is louder.

I defnitly want better sound quality. Only thing holding me back from buying the creative is reliability as I hear. What causes this, is it because people play it at max all the time, or is it maybe because they dont use a compatible sound card or is just a manufacturing flaw
