PC Speakers

So what you guys are saying is Creative is better sound quality, & the Logitech is louder.

.... or is just a manufacturing flaw

Obviously stated already, that is just a matter of opinion. I think my logitech has amazing sound quality... bass is very powerful which can at times overun the treble (depending on songs quality), but turning down bass easily sorts that issue out. Also if you got a cr@p quality audio then it wont sound good on ANYTHING.

Not manufacturing flaw, creative just made a wrong decision on which amps to use in their systems... thats all

My opinion is as follows:

The Razer card is far superior to any current Creative card. It can upmix 2 channel sound AND OUTPUT IT IN DIGITAL 5.1!!!. Creative decided to skimp and not include the feature.

Do you know if they make any usb cards cos im looking for a replacement for my Audigy NX

I defnitly want better sound quality. Only thing holding me back from buying the creative is reliability as I hear. What causes this, is it because people play it at max all the time, or is it maybe because they dont use a compatible sound card or is just a manufacturing flaw

do yourself a favour and scour other forums with google... and see what peeps around the world have to say. make an informed choice.

i have three sets of creative speakers 2x at work and 1x at home and all of them have been running fine.

The older beige creatives are crusty now, but then they are almost 6-7 years old but still going strong.

blowing the amp - i have no idea could have been a bad batch, user stupidity... who knows... i have had no problems

best bet - go to a shop that sells both with and take an audio cd and request to hear them and you judge. After all you the one who is going to live with them.

if u do creative i will always reccomend getting a creative sound card.

The reliability problems that I have heard are mainly with the high end creatives.

True that Logitech has got a reputation for making "boom boxes", but this is mainly their cheaper speakers. Just like some people complain that small Creative set have not got enough volume.

Using a Z5500 with a top quality sound card that will output in Digital, it will come close enough to any creative set. On the Z5500 the subwoofer is not overpowering and you can set it any way you want as every speaker is adjustable via the remote (Front rear centre and subwoofer

Anyone looking for a Razer sound card can give me a PM if they are in Cape Town.

PS. Creative sound cards can only upmix to 5.1/7.1 and then output via it's analog cables. The Razer will take 2 channel sound, then Upmix to a DTS (or Dolby 5.1) signal that will DIGITALLY connect to your speakers. Creative simply cannot match the Clarity that combination give. Trust me, I owned a Creative X-fi. I just got tired of the lack of Digital Upmixing and the Pops and Crackles.

The lack of EAX 3 and above has not become a problem, as most of the new games support their own multichannel sound (mostly Dolby) like CS:Source and Bioshock.

Z-5500 Digital ALL the way!! :D

Never heard sound like it before.. specially with CPU _ Killer Rabbit Remix or Artifakt _ E=MC2.. That little town didn't know what hit it!!

The sound quality of the Z-5500's is excellent. It might sound like a boom box though if you play them loud in a small room.

Yeah, the weak part of the yamaha set up is the 8" 80w subwoofer. This very true. Tafelberg furnishers Have a 12" Sony 180w RMS sustained powered sub that they will give you for R1300. Hmmm. You see, The receiver in that package retails for R3800.00. That one is the RX-V361

I Have the his slightly bigger brother , the RX-V559. Mine talks to a 5.1 Set Wharfedale Diamond 9 series speakers. The fact that it goes 5 times as loud is not the issue here. I don't listen to music or movies that loud. The Z5500 is plenty loud.

What matters is that after listening to real sound, the Z5500 or gigaworx or whatever you have just sounds like someone scratching their fingernails down the board. Yes the yamaha packaged sub is a bit lacking. That is why I originally recommended the Sony system if look at the beginning of the thread. That package offers more out of the box bang for buck value. For future upgrade value, I prefer the Yamaha.

The Z5500 and the Gigaworx and the G500 are good PC speaker packages, but that is all they'll ever be. PC speakers. and PC speakers sound crap.
