PC to console gamers

I still have my pc and sometimes long for keyboard and mouse action on Counter Strike etc. I also have a PS3 and could never really get into the controller when playing FPS titles - It is much easier to point and click on a target with a mouse than to jiggle a crosshair around the screen until it is over the target.
I recently bought a ChronusMax dongle - it plugs into the console (USB) and then you plug the controller into the dongle and with a USB cable connect it to a pc / laptop. The dongle together with software on the PC / Laptop translates the keyboard and mouse inputs to the console and voila - keyboard and mouse control on any console game. I've played Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Duke Nukem etc. and have found a new love for my console.
Now if I can only get Counter Strike on the PS3.

Who has made the switch from PC to console gaming and was it a difficult change?

Can you ever be as good on a controller as a keyboard and mouse, especially with fps type games?

Nope you can't. This is the reason the games are hosted on different servers. No cross platform servers for any FPS games.

Still prefer my PC.My PS3 has been in my drawer for almost a year as I don't have the urge to use it.

The ps4 is driven by my situation. I know it's not going to replace a pc experience for fps, so I will play different type of games on it I suppose.

Anyway. The offer I mentioned was sold out so I just got the console, 1 controller, the last of us and killzone shadow fall for R5,400.

Let's see how it goes :)

Why would anybody sane want to switch from a PC to a console?

Hey XBone and PS4 is pretty damn close to PC. Probably better than 80% of the current PC's out there being used by Gamers. I recall something on steam where the majority of them were still using dual core CPUs and 8800 standard cards. PS4/XBone is way better than that :p

Steam in-home streaming also allows me to attach a low powered laptop to the TV in the lounge and just stream the games I want to play on the big screen without needing to drag the whole beast over there.

Yep, this is why I buy most of my games on steam. Wife is going to upgrade her laptop and I might get a big screen tv soon so this suits me perfectly. I'm actually in the process of selling my ps3.

Not even remotely true.

You need to read that in context. A small portion of the PC gaming frat is running midrange to top range machines. The majority still runs out dated machines which are being outperformed by new gen Consoles.

I have an i5 760 with an HD6850. I can definitely see the difference @ 30fps of course. Direct x 12 is going to liberate a few more fps. I was planning to upgrade but now I think I'll just wait a bit.

Again, not true.

If it was, AAA PC games with high requirements wouldn't sell as well as they do. Take witcher3 for example, if you take a look at the mybb thread, there's people playing the game on a variety of machines from older gaming rigs to new highend rigs. Sure not everyone is able to run the game on ultra, but the guys that are running older hardware and running on high or medium are still able to enjoy the game, and are still running it at a much higher fidelity.

There is nothing "next-gen" about the new consoles, underwhelming hardware that can't even run their launch titles properly, which is why the marketing propaganda machines got started with their "30 fps is more cinematic" campaigns.

Pity I can't access steam from work...

I'll link it when I get home.

Just to add something...it's very difficult to equate the respective platform's outright performance when one set of users is sitting 3m away from their display while the other set is 2ft from their monitors.

Consoles have to do a lot less work to appear "good enough" mostly because of that factor.

Did you even read my reply? No need to link the steam survey I've seen it.

Spoiler: The PC gaming world is bigger than the people that did the steam survey

No it isn't.

Consoles can barely handle new titles running low-medium settings on 30fps @ 720p, on PC the sky is the limit.

No I agree. But that is the only thing we have to show us a wider picture. Yes, I do believe PC's to be far superior. I do PC gaming myself. But there is no way in hell you going to get the type of gaming from a decent PC at PS4/XBone prices. Jirre my GPU alone was R 4k :D.

Looks good. Deal comes with 'the last of us' and 'drive club'.

The last of Us is possibly the main reason to try out a console.

It does take time to get used to FPS on the controller but the rest of the games actually feel more intuitive.

FPS I still save for the PC, and RTS etc.

PC Gaming is just more expensive up front.

Sure the new consoles were only 7 grand when they first came out, but then you have to drop R900 a game. If you want to play online with your friends, you have to pay again.

On PC R900 during a steam sale can keep you gaming for the rest of the year, and online is free.

Console only really wins out if you're a very casual gamer.
