PC Upgrade - Biting the Bullet.

I had good experiences with AOPEN PSUs, sill running fine after the lightning fried my motherboard........(or maybe it's a bad thing it didn't protect it, but hey, not even my surge protector was damaged....WTF!!) But aren't they OEM by FSP? Other crappy PSU came with cheap chassis study making a big noise after a year
 
buy atleast a name brand though :)

i bought a gigabyte 450w for 199 from rectron and it ran a dual core 8800gts system just fine

Only thing i do not like about the Smilodon is all the 80mm fans, any case i buy has to have 120's :)
 
sorry for the nuubness. can someone explain how a cheap PSU will affect the pc if its like 500W - what does a more expensive PSU do ? whats the difference?

Has more to do with the quality of the power that's being delivered rather than the total wattage. Higher quality PSUs usually deliver better and more constant power on the rails :)

Heh cooling should be more than adequate unless i decided to overclock, till then im happy with it, can always play around with it and cut it up if it gets old and i need more :P

The noise is what worries me, 80's make to much noise. I have the Raidmax Sagitta with front and back 120 Stealths and a 120 stealth on my Thermalright, noisiest part is my raptor during gaming :)

I was going to go for the Sagitta but the only thing that put me off was the door/flap infront that hides the cd/dvd drives as well as less drive bays for hdd's.

Noise, meh cant be noisier than my old 1.6ghz beast im using atm :P Paid for my casing/512mb ddr 400 (for abovementioned 1.6ghz beast to be a linux box - now has 1gb ram woohoo :P) , just waiting for it to be delivered so I can go source my other components, seems that I used incorrect ref for pcmall during eft so i've contacted them to see how that pans out, holding thumbs that my messup doesnt cost me too much time...

I've got the itch to have the damn pc now and my bro is hopefully coming down from shanghai later this month so i am hoping to hit him up for an awesome graphics card :P

So I bit the bullet today and between Rectron/Sahara Im only missing ram and the keyboard/mouse combo. Nobody has 1gb ddr 800 in stock :( need to wait for next week tuesday apparently.... Anyone know of any cheap place I can get ram else I have to perv over parts that arent being used for another week when I desperately want to use them....

Meh that ram is going to work out to be like 400+- more expensive for the 4gb i want with the inflated price+shipping...

Rectron has 1gb ddr2 800 for 169 + 14% which is ummm 192.66 per 1gb ddr2 800 which is x 4 for the 4gb i want - 770.64 vs like a grand + shipping.

Think I will wait to tuesday and go source the ram and keyboard/mouse from dealer its like 10 mins drive.

Heh true I do :P im itching to play with it all but heh my case is still otw from pcmall.co.za and is due monday... , so if I need to wait till tuesday then thats ok too im just going to hate the wait :(

I luckily have machines i can "loan" things from if i need something urgently so i do not suffer very often :D
 
To be honest im lucky I dont have the ram or i'd be tempted to build the machine on a table in the interim till the case arrived , and I can see that ending badly :P
