I currently have the Asus 7900GT 256MB Pcie gfx cardw ill upgrade this later.

Ok im an AMD fan so no intel for me lol. I have a budget of about 4k and this upgrade would cost me bout R4150.
What u guys think is this an ok upgrade?

Thanks

why not go smaller on the mobo and buy the 6000+ black edition

im not sure why u want a mobo worth 2k if your not going to run sli

Ja, you get good AM2 mobo's for less than R1000.

You only get a 6400+ Black Edition killa, and it's a bit too expensive. I'd go with either the 6000+ if you aren't going to OC (it's cheap) or stick to the 5200+ and OC it.

True,
I could go for a better cpu and a cheaper mobo.
Im researching alot now and I read that AMD dual core cant even compete against Intel lol is AMD dual that bad?
I read that the E4500 at stock is faster than the X2 5000+
Maybe i should change but I dont know Intel at all.
What upgrade of intel cpu, mobo and memory would u suggest for a budget round R4200?

german let me give you some advice, the same advice grimreeaper the beauty gave me

intel core 2 is the way to go man

i know you like amd, but the fact is they are behind

amd's cpu cannot even keep up with intel in the gaming arena which is where it used to pomp intel

intel's cpu's are great for everything on a pc and amd's are just not

go intel man, get the e4500 plus a p35 chipset mobo overclock that cpu and it will beat any amd cpu on the market

im not an intel lover, i used to be an amd fanboi until i bought intel core 2

its just so much faster

May one butt in here?

Ones son is trying to upgrade his PC, its a P3. Yes, yes, but he is doing it on his own, out of his pocket, so more power to him. Or, as it may be, less... He bought a nice box for it, but the plug on the power adapter is different so it will not plug into the mother board.

Suggestions

Why bother with AMD when the Intels are faster?
I used to be an AMD fan but my next upgrade will most likely be Intel.

hmmm u guys a right and you officially pointed me in Intels direction :)
If its better and faster then that is the way to go right!
Ok so i was looking at these parts from a one week old price list:

Intel Core2 Duo E6750 - dual core 2.66ghz box cpu , with VT+TXT , 65nm , Lga775 , 1333mhz fsb - 2x64k L1+ shared 4mb L2 cache - with EDB , EiST, EM64T , WDE , ASC , SMA , ADMB - R1397 Excl

MB-AC -- ASUS Commando - Republic of Gamers
extra feature : back I/O panel with LCD P.O.S.T , on-board on/offf switch , 8-phase cap-less Power , fanless heatpipe design
, two-slot thermal fanless design - for intel Lga775 Quad-core/ Core2/ Core2-Extreme/ p4/ P-D / Pentium EXtreme cpu ; intel P965 + iCH8R chipset , 1333(oc)/1066/800/533 fsb , 4x dual channel ddr2 800 ( upto 3.375v ) , 6 x s-ata2 with raid 0/1/0+1/10/5 , 1 x parallel ata133 , on-board ADI 1988B Dobly Digital live 7.1 audio with coaxial+optical S/Pdif out + dual gigabit lan + ieee1394a + NV firewall ; 4x pci , 2 x pci-e (16x) ( 16x+4x ) - R1616 Excl

and same memory as above (hope its good gaming ram lol)
Total bout R4,412.94 Incl

What u guys think lol
Thanks :)

I know it will be substantially faster than the AMD would have been.
I clocked a e2140 up to 2GHz in a few mins and it was quite alot faster than my 3800 AM2 that im currently running and that is running at 2.6GHz
The e2140 isnt even a core 2 duo, its the earlier dual core stuff.

you wont look back buddy

that 965 chipset is awesome for ocing your cpu as well

*laughs @ AMD* :p
ok so like awesome I think i will be getting this then yay!

Hows this memory tho:
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX - XMS2 , with DHX technology , 2x1Gb/1024mb kit , ddr2-800 ( pc2-6400 ) , CL5 , 1.8v - 240pin - R858 Excl

I could add another one of these in the future :)

Would my AOpen 450W PSU be enuff though lol. (with my 7900GT card)?

Thanks for your help guys :D

Ye cheaper motherboard. I'd say stick with the 5200+ and OC it.

Rather go with a P35 based motherboard such as the Asus P5K (or any more expensive variation of it) or the DFI Bloodiron motherboard. Don't go with an intel motherboard if you are even remotely considering overclocking.

No, Pentium D's are earlier stuff.

E2xxx is just a different SKU. It's Core 2 Duo with less cache.

Avoid Intel boards!

Asus P5K. E6750.

"Gaming Ram" is going to perform just the same as budget stuff.
Expensive Ram only helps if you're going to OC it.
