PC won't work with new graphics card

Ok so I'm currently running this :

Intel MB, DH67CL from 2011 --> no MB updates available from Intel website using their driver support assistant
8GB ram
Intel i5-2500k / 3.3ghz 4 cores + 4 processors
1000w PSU (I just swopped it out from my 650w to see if it was a PSU problem, but nope all PSUs 100%)
Gigabyte GTX 1060 6gb GPU
Windows 10 Enterprise

Everything works 100%, been using this PC for years with no problems. Now I have a new graphics card, a RTX 3060 ti. When I plug it in the motherboard beeps twice (according to Intel it's a display problem, makes sense) screen won't turn on etc. so I'm dead in the water. I've tried removing the MB battery to see if resetting the BIOS works, but still nothing.. The MB has a PCIe x16 (I believe its a gen 2 slot)


I'm lost, any ideas?
 
Might be a stupid question as you already mentioned the PSU, but did you connect the 8-pin power connector to the GPU as well?

I had a similar issue on a circa 2012 Intel MB when going from a 560Ti to a 1050Ti. I had to update the BIOS to resolve the issue. Maybe if you search Intels motherboard archives you may find a newer BIOS. Could be that Driver support assistant doesn't pick it up ? Worth a try ?
 
your gonna think I'm crazy, but hear me out,
Short on the Motherboard casing?

had something similar with my GPU and what solved it was removing the screw holding the bracket to the GPU to the Casings rails.

working without a fault since, if I put the screw on, it dies exactly as you describe.
 
GPU power connector plugged in?
Motherboard Bios configured to use PEG (Pcie External Graphics)?
Screen plugged into the onboard port or GPU port?
 
Your PC is still looking for the 1060 as the primary display adapter and isn’t finding it or something along those lines. Did you uninstall the previous drivers first ?

This shouldn’t happen at boot but somehow that fixed the same issue for me. Somebody smart can explain it.
 
yeah put the old GTX1060 back in and its 100% now, I'm using the PC to type this.
8pin power from the PSU is the same for both cards.
What I did notice is this, I plugged the new card in and it has LED lights on the card right, the lights came on as normal. Then I just left the PC running (yes nothing is on the screen and it had beeped twice etc) then the LED lights on the card flickered a bit and then went off like a minute later.. never to come on again, even after a reset and a GPU double swop.. Oh I did try unplug the HDMI cable from the graphics card and put it into the onboard whilst it was going, but no joy.. I guess the PCIe takes priority if a card is plugged in.

Current monitor is a 40" Hisense 4k TV :)

I shall try the following:
1) delete old graphics card drivers
2) search for new BIOS drivers..

Did you make a small offering to the dark lord? Preferable 100% virgin blood and a SABC License.
 
The 3060ti uses a PCI gen 4, while the MB has an old PCI gen 2. Assuming all the power cables are connected, perhaps that could be the issue. The board is 12 years old and I doubt you'd even see the potential of the 3060 with your current system "bottlenecks".
 
yeah the GPU works 100% in another PC, well I haven't tried it after the little LED flickering issue..
100% on the Gen 4 but it should still boot and run as per normal, the speed in FPS in games is like 5 or so, not a great issue to me.

SABC can go and F#@K themselves, bunch of looters! :ROFL:

I found a new BIOS update, not from Intel I guess.... hopefully it doesn't destroy my board, never done it before
 
Might be a motherboard compatibility issue judging from how old it is.

Also, just wondering, won't that graphics card be pretty bottlenecked by the rest of the machine?

Don't delete drivers.

Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove them.

Reboot into safe mode (hold shift while clicking reboot), select advanced mode when it restarts and select safe mode. The run DDU and choose to uninstall and shutdown.

Once done, replace the GPU and try again. If it still fails, could be a compatibility issue. I did see a couple posts regarding enabling ACPi in the BIOS - worth a try if you haven't already.
 
ok I downloaded the new bios update, .bio and put it on a flashdisk

I looked in the current bios and couldn't find ACPi anywhere, only thing was PCIe ASPM support, it has 3 options, it is currently on disable:
1) disable
2) enable
3) PEG Only

also downloaded that DDU, will do that now. Just thinking if that ASPM in the bios has anything to do with it?
 
nope no joy still :

Bios support UEFI? You would have mouse control in bios and also option to enable and disable CSM legacy suppport.

New cards need UEFI bios support

After the LED flicker and die, double check that the GPU is still working in another system.

Now that you aren't getting beeps anymore, I would try and boot with the onboard again.

Remove the GPU, enter bios and change the preferred to the IGP and you might need to enable IGPU Multi-Monitor in the bios if you have such a setting, I remember some older systems had that bios setting to have both the IGPU and GPU work at the same time otherwise it would disable the IGPU automatically.
Then turn off and install GPU and power connector but don't connect any display cables to the GPU, connect it only to the mobo.

Try and boot into windows using onboard and have a look if the GPU is being detected at all in windows device manager.
