The Boardwalk Casino in Port Elizabeth was robbed early on Sunday morning, police said.

Police spokesperson Hazel Mqala said: "Ten to fourteen people - all armed with rifles or pistols - went through the main entrance.

"They then made their way into the casino where they overpowered security guards."

The men went to the cashier's office and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

They fled in a get-away vehicle.

Shots were fired by security guards, but no one was injured, Mqala said.

No arrests have been made and police are investigating.

There's not as much security as at Grand West but they still have armed guards so not sure. Apparently at the exit point a guard with some sort of assault rifle came towards them and as he got near the car they opened fire and he just ran.

Are there no spikes at the exit points?

No, not that I've ever seen anyway, just a boom which they drove straight through.

A friend of mine was there and had a firearm pointed at him in the casino

I have often wondered what that chap with the R5 at the boom would do if this happened now I know.

Sounded quite hectic. I've seen people patrolling the complex with (I presume) R5's before, wonder where they were?
