just a comment on the sizing. There are some online calc's that you can use to see changes/error in speedo reading

Example

more links here

Your speedo, odo, traction control, and various other settings are all based on the distance that your tyre travels over one complete turn/cycle/revolution. Rule of thumb is <1% difference , Ideally <0.5%

Replaced the two front Firestones on my Corsa with ContiSportContact 3, big improvement.

The problem with Contis is that they wear too quickly.

True, they do seem to be of a softer compound, however if like me you only drive your car every other week it is not really a problem

You only replace them when they start perishing after five years don't you? :)

And where did you go, also if you don't mind divulging?

I haven't gone to get mine yet. I first enquired at The Tyre Guys as they were recommended to me (based on experience, not price) .

Then i tried the place my old man goes to and they (Palm Tyres) are close to work and cheaper.

Nice, what did you end up paying if you don't mind me asking?

R1,450 each, with a discount on fitment/balancing. It would be about R1,300 each from Errol's (excluding shipping of ±R150).

The reviews are very favourable, seems the wet performance is the only real letdown. They also seem to be long lasting.

Quite happy to pay a bit more for something local that I will have tomorrow, the service has been outstanding. You know when they're more than happy to entertain one's ping pong requests, via several emails and cell phone calls to myself.

I've just finished preparing her for the boys down at Tonnesen, full valet and wheel clean before going in tomorrow. :D

And my current rears, fronts to be, are the same tyres (although 225 and not 235), so they can all finally be matching. ;)

Good Year Eagle F1 Asymmetrical - Tried these and the Pilot Sport 3s on my Accord, preferred the Eagle F1s. Nice and grippy, quiet for highway cruising and beyond exceptional wet weather performance.

This. I know a place that does (or did) really good prices on these. You would be a bit silly spending more money on tires not as good; and that will not last as long.

Hey

I would also recommend the hankook ventus v12 evos. They are a pretty good tyre for the money. They grip well in the dry and wet. At 162kw which is around the same as the car i had them on they were pretty good. In durban they are a very popular tyre among the VW GTI community.

The pirelli p zero is an excellent tyre in the dry but they are to soft and have lasted approximately 5000km on a 300kw rwd car. The grip in the wet was good as well.

Any dunlop tyre i would stay away from personally. Had a set on the front of the car and they got bubbles on the tyre after a week. Retured them under warranty and got another set but had the same problem. Returned them for a refund.

Currently have Bridgestone potenze s001 on my current car. Tyre seems good after 500km in a 240kw car. Grips well in the dry but havent tested it in the wet yet.

Hope my review of tyres i have used helped in anyway possible. Having good tyres can really change your car and the decision is always a tough one.

Presh

Thank you. I've seen the Hankooks on GTIs down here. I'll look into them considering my A4 is very similar to the GTI, same engine really, just longitudinal vs transverse.

What power are you putting down from your car?

Can definitely suggest the Hankook Ventus as well.

Had a set of bridgetones on my first ST, once I replaced them with the Hankooks the difference was immediate. Felt more grip, and, it may have been my imagination but tyres also felt lighter through the response I was getting through the steering. Hankooks were also a lot less noisy that the Bridgestones I had.

Second ST came with Goodyears, superb tyre and great grip, but didn't last as long as the Hankook.

On my 3rd ST now and this one came with Yokohamas. Noisy as hell and will look to replace soon. Will probably go Hankook route again. No complaints at all.

Hope you find what you need.

Would have been happy with the Hankooks, very expensive though. At that price I'd rather have gone for Michelins, a premium brand.

My Falkens (second tier brand like Hankook) are costing half. Not saying they're better of course, but very well rated and very good value.
