Hi

So I have been looking at what is out there Quicken, YNAB, Pastel Sage My Money. I like quicken but I seems we SA people cannot buy it online.

My requirements

1. No online storage (My personal finances aren't sync to any cloud server).
2. PC (a Phone app might be a plus but this will probably mean cloud sync which aint happening).
3. Proper budgeting functionality
4. Decent Reports

I don't mind paying for software but then it must be worth it. GNUCASH isn't an option.

Thanks

Any specific reason why you do not want to sync?

Because 22seven is unmatched.

I have Sage my money the support is utter BS and the platform rarely works yet they charge your credit card no problem.

If you do not want to sync with the cloud at all.

The a spreadsheet that you manually maintain is your only bet.

Financial data is private and if they choose to use that data they could very easily steal you identify as they have all you financial data and if you have a subscription option they have a billing address and possible a physical address for you.

I WISH PEOPLE WOULD REALIZE THE CLOUD ISN'T THE SOLUTION FOR EVERYTHING !!!

22seven is as safe as it gets.

Alas I think a spreadsheet is perfect for you.

I used one for ages and works marvelously just a schlep keeping each and every slip

Very few software solutions out there don't have some sort of cloud or internet link and given your comment, any link to to the web runs the risk of data being uploaded with or without your knowledge.

Given your view on privacy of your data, I'd strongly suggest rather building something for yourself in MS Excel.

MS Money can be done completely off cloud. I have mine on a single laptop with a backup occasionally of my budget file to external HDD or flash drive.

22seven is way too clever and granular for my liking and still requires a lot of admin to properly classify stuff. Transfers between accounts also aren't 100%, well not when I last used it.

Maybe I spend to erratically for 22seven to make any sense of it. Tried it twice now, doubt I'll ever try it again.

Still light years ahead of pastel my money

Quicken was very good and easy for me, used it for years. BUT then it could not be updated in RSA so I have not used anything else since ditching it and actually feel financially lost now.

Hence the research has commenced to start again.

What are you guys using now and why?

YNAB looks great until you realize they will have all your data. Including data that could assist in identify theft no YNAB is not a viable option

I use version 4 which is pc and your dropbox at most. No reason for me to upgrade, see if you can still purchase. Heck, try Steam, was on there a while ago.

*edit* lol, still there and version 4.

Busy setting up 22seven. Looks very promising.
