Hi there,

Is there any recommend pc setup with oem network cards you should get to atleast achieve close to 1gig internet speed without any custom firewall and vpn rules in pfsense?

Basically any old PC with a 64bit cpu and 1gig network cards should work.

Although any network card that is supported by FreeBSD works, I would recommend at least intel cards, as cheaper cards put a bit of strain on the CPU, so if you don't have a good CPU you can cause a bit of a bottle neck on the network side.
You also need to consider the cryptology requirements for the CPU as well, as I think the latest version requires the CPU to at least support AES.

I haven't personally used pfSense in a very long time as I prefer to use OpenSense instead, but I've been able to get gigabit speeds on OpenSense using just an intel Atom C 3000 series processor and a few Intel gigabit cards even with stuff like IPS and VPNs enabled.

If you have some money to spare, then maybe consider getting a Celeron J3160 barebone pc like in the pic below:

Intel NICs and an Intel CPU that supports AES. Older gen, at least i3/5/7 although the later gen Celerons are fine. Just look at the gen of the chip when buying a bare bones.
