Philips Airfryer - anyone have?

Just made my first meal and I'm impressed. Chicken fillets and chips. Took less than 25 minutes and the family loves it.

Yip it's great. I'd say the only reason to really go for the digital version is the size (manufacturer only made this one due to complaints I size just btw.. Addition of electronic parts was just to differentiate it and up the price as a more premium one).

So since I'm single I have the smaller one and parents have a bigger one. Btw this eats electricity.. Made 10 pies and also chips + burgers on two occasions in one month and my energy bill went up by 100 bucks haha so yah.. Just factor that in. It was my 1st month and I just had to have pies (lazy). But having said that, if I made the same in a conventional oven I'm sure my bill would have been even higher

Last night I made hamburger patties in the pan and it did not agree with me, so I need to go oil less cooking.

Yah those boxed patties come out dry and yucky.. I reckon microwave is still best and butcher patties are a lot nicer haha

Just bought one. Could not find the electronic one so got the normal dial one. Actually its better as the wife and maid will use it. Busy making my first chips in it so will see.

I have to focus on eating healthy thanks to my pancreas that put me in hospital for a week this month, so hoping this works as good as everybody says. Last night I made hamburger patties in the pan and it did not agree with me, so I need to go oil less cooking.
Get one of those "glass bowl" convection ovens. Hamburger patties, steak, fish, a roast chicken in just over an hour(crispy skin), pizza (though only one at a time. - all without using oil! Bake cake.
Make sure to get one with the stainless steel extention ring. It raises the lid, helps to keep fat spatters off.
pork sausages are best if rolled through a lil oil before using the convection oven.

The excess fat from the chicken, patties etc drip down below the grid with the food so the food does not soak in its own fat/juices.

Then keep the air fryer for chips and such.

Edit:
Also invest in microwave bacon trays. 1 pack fits on 2 trays.
Crispy bacon (normal bacon, not the crappy, plastic microwave version).
And that is in less than 7 minutes :) :p
The trays are easy to clean. Excess fat drips into grooves under the bacon.

Where do you get them?

I made bacon in my fryer this morning and it beats the microwave. In the microwave you just place paper towels down, a layer of bacon strips and then a towel on top. Takes 5 minutes. Took 6 minutes in the fryer.

We already have a very nice oven but its always a mission to preheat it just to make some fish sticks and chips. As for cost, well the fryer uses 1800W so that R1-2 per meal which I can afford ;)

Also I have to eat healthy unless I won't to end up in the hospital again so I'm happy to pay a premium to stay healthy.

No, these are pure beef patties. Its what The Dros uses and they seal through their retail store Helgas. I won't even feed a politician those box patties.

Pardon my ignorance but since I don't eat bacon I always thought the fat was in the meat anyway. When you fry in a pan you don't add any fat do you ?

Buy mince, form into patties (add nothing to the mince), salt outside of patties, place onto smoking hot cast iron griddle pan, no oil required.

Best patties I've ever eaten have all been this recipe. I don't known my beef but a mate of mine swears by a certain cut and his patties are the best.

With bacontrays you place it in the tray and kitchen towel over.

I would not place bacon on it! The bacon will stick to the paper.
The tray has grooves in the bottom, not unlike some steak pans. No oil added when making the bacon.

Comes out golden and crispy, if cooked long enough else soft(some prefer this) if cooked for a shorter time.

bought 1 of the above a few months ago from makro (R1500) - freaking awesome! I usually don't cook and always buy take aways from woolies but this thing is a breeze to use. ;)

braai wors / steak / chops / bacon / pizza / fish / raw pies / baked potatoes / fillet steak / leg of lamb!!! - fawk I actually did a leg of lamb!! :wtf:

best thing is it cooks un attendant - no mess - no smell - no smoke and easy to clean. I just line the drip pan with tin foil and throw away afterwards.

and NO it does not dry out the food at all.

2 mature steaks - 180deg - 20min on timer and they are done perfectly juicy and slightly pink in the middle :p

have not used the rotisserie, chip maker or done any veggies in it yet.

well worth the money and does not use much power as it is not on all the time and does not require pre heating like a normal oven.

this is one gift your wife / girlfriend will love you for it.

Thread revival ..

Is the consensus still that these things ( Air Fryers ) are the bomb ?
They quite pricey compared to the prices originally being stated when this thread first started.
Those that have them, you still use them ?

I bought one at Dion wired for R1690 last week. Not that much difference in price

I rate these highly...

The HO bought, then I chucked some frozen jalapeno poppers in and fecked melted cheese everywhere, still tasted good...

My Point, that machine can cook everything.... I have used it 5 times in 8 days.....

Gonna try and braai my meat in it when I get a chance....
