Philips Airfryer - anyone have?

Thread revival ..

Is the consensus still that these things ( Air Fryers ) are the bomb ?
They quite pricey compared to the prices originally being stated when this thread first started.
Those that have them, you still use them ?

Every day. We also take with us on holiday.

I bought one at Dion wired for R1690 last week. Not that much difference in price

Good Price !
I see they out of stock at the moment. The electronic control versions are double the price.
Will keep an eye out for specials

Go to a Dion wired store for the offer. If they don't have stock ask them for a rain check. Will cost you nothing. And allow you a few weeks in which to buy it when it comes in stock

Wife is saying that her friend has 1. And that she says it's beyond amazing.

Is it ok to get the normal 1 or should 1 go bigger/larger or even the digital one. Are there any advantages?

We are a small family - kids are 2&5 so it's not like we eat buckets... at least not until my son gets bigger.

What's the price difference?

People usually regret getting one size too small, then one size too large.

For family a bigger one is better.

This sounds like something I have got to have. I buy a 5 litre of oil every month just for frying stuff. Wonder how it handles poli, samoosa and gulab jamun.

Samoosa are okay eish. They do dry out the food so it will never be as good. Its better to dip them in oil or butter than put them in the air fiyer.

Nice. Think it's going to be worth my while anyway to get one. No more preheating ovens or having fatty burger oil splash on the floor.

It is not a "fryer" - it literally is simply a mini oven and cooks in the same way.

The heat comes from a spiral element with a fan blowing down - no magic and no oil being circulated.

Difficult to clean.

I only use it for small amounts of chicken, par-boiled turmeric lamb, and chips (to avoid the pot of oil).

Fish / fishcakes can be done, but would come out worse than pan-fried.

Done fishcakes in them. Just have to make sure they have plenty of moisture and they turn out fine

We have a large Philips that we use regularly. Haven't experimented too much yet, but have perfected potatoes: From baked to wedges to fries. Works great with Russians too. No mess, no fuss.

Loot has the Phillips XL fryer for R2899. Is that the cheapest I can expect to find it?

Takealot have the digital Viva version today (16 May) at R2,499
