So yesterday I had to do some grocery shopping.

Went to pick n pay on William Nicol and republic.

Filled the trolley, stood in the queue, got to a cashier, unpacked the trolley.

I asked for bags, teller starts ringing up R25 material bags.

Turns out this pick n pay will no longer sell normal plastic bags, and your only options are R12 or R25 material bags.

Urgh, is this now standard for all pick n pay stores?

Doubt it, but I don't mind those bags, I do however mind having to remember to take them with every time.

Local spar said the same 6 months ago. They still have plastic bags. Staff just talk **** when they run out of plastic.

I think it's 12 pick n pays that no longer stock plastic bags

I hope this is the case, however according to the floor manager however this is now policy and will be implemented everywhere

Think I'll take my checkers plastic packets with me when I go shopping.

Funny. Exactly the same as spar. Verified with manager and he said same thing, will be rolled out to all spars. Never happened. If I recall I even posted in some plastic bag thread.

At checkers you can buy a buy for R5 I think, and every time you use it, you will get R0.50 discount

I personally think it is a good thing, lets save the world !

I did not notice yesterday when I went to PicknPay... she asked me something but I was already was pulling out a plastic bag from my pocket. She made a non-English comment to the packer with the word 'bag' which stuck with me, what was that about? Maybe this thread explains it?

Anyway I reuse if I did not forget to carry one in the car. And always try and pull out a competitor bag to a store I am going to.

That idea works...

But a Spar near me also got rid of the plastic, and only had R12 bags (or something like that)... was not pleasant paying an extra R60 for the 5 bags I needed for that shop... I don't go to that Spar anymore.

Bought plastics bags at my PnP yesterday, maybe it's down to each store manager...

I think its going to be a slow rollout process to be honest...

Its coming to all the shops, it will just take time.

Had the same experience at the same store, I said no to the R25 bag. I could carry the little I bought with some juggling to the car.

Why don't PnP put up notices, I do have a bag in the boot so a reminder would be great.
