Pick and Pay

That would mean having to shop at checkers
Actually not that bad, better pricing then PnP (who's trying to be like woolies now) and the goods at Checkers aren't so bad.

Surprised at such negative reactions to this plastic bag policy. I think it's a great move. Very necessary considering how the environment around us is quickly going to ****.

It's ridiculous that we place our plastic covered groceries, into plastic bags (most of us use only once). The recent floods in Durban and the amount of plastic waste that washed up on the beaches was a basic demonstration of just how much kak there is everywhere. We all really need to learn how to use less plastic and what we do use in a more sustainable manner.

If that involves having to remember to bring your own bags to a shop ... that is really not such a huge thing to ask at all.

A R25 bag is pretty much guaranteed to do more damage to the environment than a R0.50 bag, especially if you reuse the 50c bag, even just as a bin liner. (And what are you using for bin liners if you're armed with cloth bags for the shopping?) It's the embodied energy and water in an expensive bag that makes it cost more, nevermind the profit. It's like bottled water. You're paying for the oil that's been burned, not the water.

As a general rule if you're spending more money you're damaging the environment more. Ergo, homeless people are environmentally friendly.

Ours has a sign up asking to buy or bring re-usable bags. But the tellers went through the usual routine and used plastic bags. ‍♂️

I think PnP were doing that "plastic free day" thing yesterday and vying for which shop could sell the least number of plastic bags.
