Pigeon-Power versus ADSL

You some how need to combine the two. Something that flied through the air like a bird but with the speeds, redundancy and response times you'd except from ADSL. Yet it must not be earthbound or travel in tiny pipes made from glass or copper....

something like.....

..... wireless !!!!

Pidgeon Carrier Service

I could buy many many winstons per month for the same price of ADSL

I think that the people that write these articles do not know much about homing / carrier pidgeons

or that during the WWII there was a whole army section of people running such a service -- without the benefit of high capacity miniature data storage

[ There is a very famous story about Rothschild and the Battle of Waterloo -- that involves a carrier pidgeon ]

How much does it cost to keep and train a "Winston" ???

How much does a micro SD card cost ???

Redundancy -- several Winstons all at the same time.

Increase capacity -- bigger HDSD -- and now more Winston's and Cecily

Security -- encrypt the data

Someone was joking about starting such a service

Not sure why it would not work ?

Just have Satellite Stations dotted around the place.

Voila -- ICASA will be asking your for your LICENCE :D:D:D

the_lobe: Yea, this whole thing was never a serious challenge. This article is stupid for trying to seriously compare Telkom to a pigeon. Stop shooting down the bloody pigeon! It is a gimmick to focus our attention on something important: We have 54x worse internet at home than people in rural Europe.

I'm currently in a small town in Belgium for two months and we have ADSL2, 21mbps. Telkom can't even handle 8mbps locally and I don't see ADSL2 getting rolled out any time soon within the next 5 years..... Our local infrastructure is seriously lacking. ADSL1 has been outdated in the rest of the world for a long time.

Altech is picking on a bird to advertise their service...
