So Saturday I'm in for my first slr shoot. I'm going to visit in laws at Northam, so thought why not drive to Pilansberg Saturday morning. Will go early, around 6am.

Any of you were there? Tips, tricks? Where to go, best spots?

I still have only the kit lens that came with my 1000d, so far zooming isn't a option. Will try some wildlife (if the lens allow it) and landscape.

Will post some if it's descent enough.

Have a look at my featured galleries (all Pilanesberg). Under animals, there are another two galleries.

The kit lens is going to be a bit too short for anything other than landscapes, so you may want to try the drive on top of the mountain (Lenong) for views. You could also think of hiring something a bit longer from ODP, which unfortunately is not cheap. The Canon 100-400 is R280 per day. They may also have a Sigma 50-500 which isn't listed (they used to have), but that takes a bit of getting used to. Most of the pics in the galleries I've given were taken with the Sigma 50-500.

The kit lens will be fine for landscapes but you're going to be coming home with an unquenchable thirst for new glass . . . . :o

//me goes off to google Pilansberg :)

You going to Sun City?
Nope, not any plans to go.

I know I will need better and longer glass, but the budged is a bit tight now. And I wont buy cheap stuff, rather wait a bit and buy better quality.

I'm not sure what you consider as being cheap stuff but dont write off Sigma and Tameron just because they're not as expensive as Canon - some of their stuff is pretty good.

Yes I know, but what I meant, I wont settle for a lens that is not good quality, just because it's cheap. I'll rather wait till I have the moola for better.
