Piracy crackdown continues

100 million illegal copies of Xp... and 21 new cases?!?! WOW! Hows that for efficient. Their legal team is as effective as their programmers.
 
Microsoft SA’s Mark Reynolds says the global crackdowns are designed to protect honest consumers and resellers.

“Illegal software doesn’t only cost the big vendors dearly. New estimates by technology researcher IDC suggest that worldwide, the industry is losing more than $10 billion a year from pirated desktop software. The proceeds of counterfeiting help fund organised crime, and impacts directly on job creation and economic development in this country,” says Reynolds.

Actually anti-piracy measures built into software frustrate and irritate legitimate users. We don't like being treated like criminals... and we really don't give a rat's tushie about you going after the pirates. It's your loss... you go get it. Just leave us out of it please.

And the link between piracy and organised crime has never been proven, that's just a convenient excuse of yours (unless by "organised crime" you mean the methods that the pirates use to keep their blank DVDs organised).

It also has booker all to do with job creation and economic development! I am so tired of all the BS these guys spout every few months they have a "clean-up" drive or post some more crap about their anti-piracy.

You want a perfect win-win solution? Switch to Open Source.
 
Legal copy is fine and dandy, but what if somebody runs a keygen somewhere and it matches your product key 100%?

Nah, prefer open source - no such things on open office :cool:
 
Wait a minute. Many of the dealers they speak of aren't organised criminals, just people trying to make more profit by selling pirate software loaded on their goods. This person can't just make a statement like that. Another thing is that the sales people who sell software also sell other products like hardware, so how does the piracy cause loss of jobs. Perhaps it causes losses of jobs in the USA where the coders behind windows work, but thats not our problem here in SA.

Also, if they really wanted to stop it then they should get their act together. The BSA seems weak and powerless. They allow themselves to get stuck in red tape and use BS scare tactics and propoganda. Just go out there and do something about it already. There are so many companies openly pirating windows or using it.

If he owns the legit DVD he owns the licence and he MS can't bust him
for copyright infringement even if someone generates the same
code his using a keygen. That's all.
 
OMG! I do hope they don't bust me for the copy of OpenSuse 10.3, that i downloaded from the net, I'm using on all my machines :eek:

Well, in many jurisdictions, Microsoft is considered to be the embodiment of organised crime...
 
It is about time something was done about this. I dont know how many backyard vendors have taking people for a ride by slapping copied software on the PC's they sell. Then it comes support time and the poor consumer is left holding the bag on software they purchased illegally without knowing about it.

If you going to install pirated software at least let the recipient know about it. And dont sell it to them.

What I mean is if my legal product key stops working I'll make it Microsoft's problem very quickly. :D Although I also get irritated with all these keys, activation etc. which are always cracked anyway and just make life more difficult for those of us that do actually pay for the software.
