Also, if you try remove the "allowances" and add it to the base salary they will push back.

Blame the unions.
These wages were negotiated by unions.
The unions have now said they don't want free housing they want housing allowances.


And still they can earn the money they just have to be more efficient.
It is performance based. And as reported on various sources our workers are not very efficient.

I expect the strike to start all over again, but this time it will be a wildcat strike and i expect large numbers of workers to be fired... will save on retrenchment costs

It's a vicious circle...
Maybe are workers are not very efficient because they are not paid decently, rather than the other way around?
 
These mines are the most unproductive in the world. They are also way deeper than in other countries which means they are more costly. That coupled with fact that the SA mining industry is actually deskilling, is killing productivity and reducing safety. This is forcing the owners to use more labour for lower yields than in other countries. Which means they cant afford comparative wages because they cant increase the price they get for platinum.

Mechanisation is harder because of the increased depths.

Easy to blame the unions, but SA platinum mining is simply not worth it. Not enough skills to mine that deep safely and productively.

They are paid more than decently if they are efficient.

No blame can be laid at the mines feet for that.
 
PLATINUM WAGE SETTLEMENT SIGNED

Platinum producers and Amcu have signed a settlement agreement.

Lonmin spokeswoman Charmane Russell told reporters on Tuesday outside the company's offices in Melrose Arch, north of Johannesburg that the agreement had been signed.

Workers are expected to return to work on Wednesday.

Reporters were waiting to be addressed by Lonmin CEO Ben Magara.

The platinum miners have been on strike since January 23 this year.

I have shown you that they are paid enough.
There are university graduates that doesn't earn that pay with those perks. And they have study loans to pay off.

You are grasping at straws.

They have shifts, they have the labour law to protect them. Like I showed you. Our workers are not efficient.

Today I was in Barberton. They are fixing potholes. 30 people per hole. 3 work the rest sit and lounge around the road.
Why was 3 not placed at each hole, they could have fixed 40 potholes for the day( there were 4 teams working at 4 potholes) but now 4 potholes will be fixed. Effieciency.

I call it the joelus communism. Everyone must be employed and each with a minimum wage of R12500.00 then they will delay the strike till the next loaf month required!

Do you own one of the mines? I noticed you said "Our workers are not efficient" so I assume you own one of the mines as your language identifies ownership or at least a shared feeling of ownership

I notice that many people in this thread seem to have sympathy for the mine owners and not for the workers. Why is that?
There will be very, very, very few people in MyBB that are owners of capital. Almost everyone here will be workers. I would have assumed your sympathies would be with your fellow workers

Because they are lazy fk tards.

They signed up for the salaries when they had no income. Now they feel entitled to getting paid salaries allot of educated people don't even get.

And mine workers get paid more than them as the job they do is quite horrible
