PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS

And Microsoft said Azure servers will be available in SA sometime next year right?

That is correct as far as I know. They already showing them on azure.microsoft.com/en-us/ as South Africa North and South Africa West. Although, I suspect the devs will still be two minded about creating local servers for us.

My only concern is that neither AWS or MS will be deploying in their own respective capacity in SA, they are also not very keen on deploying datacentres in SA. I guess the responsibility will be assigned to some entity to manage and maintain in SA, though it will drastically improve latencies, there they may be service level issues.

Availability zones, it was announced mid-2017, but still unavailable until somewhere in 2018 iirc.

There is also no guarantee even with the switch to Azure that they will be making available SA servers.

If we have, according to steamspy, 600000 Steam users in SA and 20% of those users played PUBG in the last two weeks, that's 120000 users, surely that's enough to justify servers or do I have my numbers wrong?

It depends on the product rollout, the availability, etc. MS and their local MS partners are very non-disclosed on this matter. The question remains whether it is feasible for them. We will have to wait and see, their turnaround time for node deployments are usually 10-12 months, so mid-2018 then... They do cater for the Australian market, but they serve a larger Asian region as well.

I think by the time we do get servers, we would have moved on to another game. Sorry to say, but this lag in the game is growing old quick and COD is out end of the week...

I've only recently played my first battle royale style game with Fortnite and I love it, I never knew it would be my cup of tea but now I can't get enough.

If PUBG has good local servers I'd buy it for sure, more regions with servers also means less strain overall and once it's available on console they are getting a ton of new revenue.

PUBG is well thought out and the roadmap is promising. It is more realistic than opposed to games like Fortnite. Just remember, as the devs put it themselves, the shooting mechanics reward those with quicker response which is obvious, but the game promotes awareness. It is also much better than H1Z1.

This is the player that I observe to learn the game better,

He don't play like the more known Dr. Disrespect, shroud type of players.

When it first came out I figured it would be the natural evolution from CSGO, now they have first person only servers too.

But I'm in no rush to buy it, I can wait a long time to see if it dies out, people lose interest etc until I know the experience will be worth it.

Since September, many top e-sports organisations started to employ PUBG teams. NIP even bought 5 players to play PUBG so I guess when the games launch later this year that there may be a competition series introduced. The rules, well, the devs will need to work with the e-sports guys to set rules and characteristics unique to competition. This may keep the game alive, but it may also end up like Overwatch.

PUBG is the new League of Legeds but it has hackers :D

still fun though... especially if you play in a group of 2+ alone not quite as fun I have to say.

Latest PUBG patch notes, test build rolling out today,

http://steamcommunity.com/games/578080/announcements/detail/1462969633594470781

Today, we would like to give you an update about the test servers. Many players were disappointed that the first test server schedule was delayed last time. Right before opening the test servers, we concluded that the test build was not stable enough and decided to postpone the test. Although the current test build is not completely stable as of now, we still would like to open the test servers this week even for a short period of time and allow players to test the long-awaited feature - vaulting & climbing. We were planning to run test servers for about three days but this week’s test will be shorter because of the build’s current state.

Please note that you may experience client crashes on the test servers. This is normal as the build we are using for this test is not completely stable. This may not be the best condition to test all the features. At this time we ask for your understanding as we continue to fix the issue.

The test will begin tomorrow and last for about a day. If we decide to extend the test schedule, we will make an announcement on our official social media channels.

Test schedule

PST: November 13th 06:00 PM – November 14th 06:00 PM
CET: November 14th 03:00 AM – November 15th 03:00 AM
KST: November 14th 11:00 AM – November 15th 11:00 AM

Region & Modes

NA SOLO First-person / Third-person
ASIA SOLO First-person / Third-person

This test build has some good changes, hope to see it soon going public.

No South African servers yet. THAT is the BEEEEgest problem.

It isn’t really bothering me at all. I am winning. Local servers will be welcomed, but I am not really hampered without it.

Yeah that happens, but when the connection is stable you and the server it is okay. It does happen at times on good latency as well, check the top streamers complaining about it. We all know the game is badly optimised.

Debateable
With around 200 ping averages lag is a reality, regardless of fibre or copper. Yes I’ve had some Chicken dinners, however close combat is the determining factor in many cases. There 20 - 50 latency will almost always win.
BUT... it still is a very nice game.
