Hi ladies and gents,

I've got a question relating to 3G.

I have a Vodafone K3563-rev2 3G modem, with an 8ta Data SIM in it. On my laptop and home PC's i installed the "Autorun" Vodacom mobile connect and drivers, and then installed the 8ta Dashboard. I use the 8ta dashboard and can connect to my 8ta 3G with no problems.

I have also put a 2gb micro SD card in there to use as a mass storage device. Now if i just plug my modem into another PC, a mates for instance, i cant see my 2gb SD card. Is this because i didnt do the vodacom autorun install first?

I wanted to leave my 3G with the girlfriend today, but the PC she has access to already has a newer vodafone mobile connect installed, and when i try install mine, nothing happens.

How can i make my 3G work with 8ta sim and vodafone modem?

If i use MDMA, is there a specific way to set it up?

Please assist me :)

If you can't see SD, but you can see CD-ROM device in device manager under USB root hub (chose view by connection) then drivers were not installed. If below USB root hub you can see composite device (and number of dependent drivers including CD-ROM device), then I can say drivers were installed.

Can't help unless above is answered.

8ta carstensdj!

Most USB devices which accommodate memory cards have drivers which installs when doing the autorun from the actual device, so it would be advised to allow the autorun to install the drivers. sajunky's response is correct.

You may also be able to use the updated software on your girlfriends PC if the software is compatible with your USB modem by just changing the settings to accommodate the 8ta SIM. MDMA should also essentially install the required SD card drivers.

Hope this helps.

I have tried using MDMA instead, but it couldn't detect the device so im assuming that the necessary drivers aren't installed.
I think you are correct, I don't see a 3G modem in the 'Modems' section, you should also see the modem's control ports in the 'Ports' section, these are what MDMA needs to talk to the modem.
Anyone know where i can get a driver pack for the K3565-rev2? Doesn't that modem have another name? Like E190 or E220 or something?
You could try the Huawei driver-only package from here:
http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/

It is quite old though, so you might need a newer package. All Huawei modems use the same drivers so you don't need to look for something specific for the K3565.

I will get as screenshot of the ports when i am near that desktop tomorrow again.

As for the driver link, thanks for that. I have actually downloaded that already and installed, but it doesn't seem to do anything :(

What i WOULD try is uninstalling the current Vodacom Connection Manager and re-installing them using MY modem, but the guy who's PC it is uses it, so i dont want to mess with it as he will then have to uninstall mine and re-install his.

If i could just get the PC to recognize my device, i will be A for away, using either the 8ta dashboard as i do with my own laptop, or MDMA, but need to get the device recognized first...

I've also read a bit about "Unlocking" the device and installing the Huawei firmware instead of the Vodacom, but didnt want to do it until i was 100% sure of how to, as i cant afford to get another modem if i mess this one up, and rely on my 3G to support problems that may and do occur during the evenings at work...

Be careful with that. Unlocking only applies to devices that are network locked and will only work with a SIM card from one network. This only applies to some foreign 3G modems, no modems in South Africa are network locked. Also, don't confuse the firmware with the dashboard installer, they are stored separately on the modem.

Hate problems like these! In theory it's easy to fix, but practically it's not!

It shouldn't be so hard to get drivers for a modem and then use what ever dashboard you wish :( I've tried searching for a driver package for my modem, but nothing comes up. The closest i got was the driver pack on the MDMA site, which didnt seem to do anything at all :(

It seems like the only way to make a PC recognize my modem is to install the whole Vodacom package, as opposed to just a set of drivers without the Voda Connection Manager too  Not to mention that i cant even use the MicroSD in there unless the entire voda software is installed first

Look for drivers recognising this modem. Here is from other forum:

stick doesn´t work after updated dashboard on another PC/laptop (where plugged in for the first time)

you need original Huawei driver Version 3.09 (Windows Driver for(3.09.00.00)) for the K3765

Thanks so much for looking into this!

So have i got the right idea here? I install these drivers onto the PC that i want to use, and once installed, the device will be recognized in MDMA or 8ta Dashboard?

Or is this one of those jobs where one must flash the device?

Excuse my n00b-ness on this topic... 3G is all a little new to me :erm:

You had it right from the beginning. Lets start from a fact you conscious enough to mess up with someone else computer!

The rest is just technicality. Don't need to play with flashing, you can avoid it.

Install these drivers.
Regarding Vodafone, I think you can enable autostart (or double click on executable file on the CD-ROm device). If remember corectly, it will install drivers without asking, then when installation dialog box pop-up, you can interrupt installing Vodafone bloatware. I just borrowed the same modem, will test on XP fresh machine.

Thanks sajunky!

I forgot to mention that i am trying to do this on Win7PRO.

Let me know how the testing goes for you, and if you came right and what you did... Very much appreciated! Thank you.

Sorry, i forgot to say that i did try and install the vodacom software that comes flashed onto the device, but nothing seemed to happen. I just assumed it must be because the guy who's PC it is, has got a newer device and version of the software already installed....

With Windows 7 I can't help, but it is similar. First step is to open Vodafone software and select two options in the options menu:
- do not load at startup
- exit system tray on exit
Then exit. It will unload it from memory.

I verified, K3565 (PID 1001) is supported by drivers v.3.09. if driver don't want to install, then you can do it manually in Windows "detect new hardware" and pointing to the location you have decompressed drivers (Win7 folder).

Ok so i tried the drivers that you provided a link for...

Nothing actually happens when you click the .exe, however i did notice that an "install" txt file appears. In there is a bunch of text, which looks like the install log to me...

Once installed, I opened MDMA and 8ta dashboard, but neither could pick up my device. I'm still stuck :(

EDIT: Just for peace of mind, i went the other route on another PC where I installed the Vodacom software that is on the device, then closed the VCM, opened 8ta Dashboard and there it was... I could connect... So my modem can defs be seen, but only when installed via VCM installer

Just recall that Win7 default user has no admin rights. These are needed to install drivers.
So probably... need to click on executable file second button and select from popup menu "run as".

Or select other option "decompress" and point to the folder. Then inspect this folder, there is a file DriverSetup.exe (also needs admin rights). Here you can see Win7 folder, I mentioned before, you need to point to this folder when installing drivers by "add new hardware" feature.

You did it on other computer. On the computer in question check user rigts, run it as admin.

Yea i did check for Admin rights and the user that i was using is the Administrator... Will try the other methods that you mentioned. Thanks again!

Some thoughts
1)on Win7 it should show you the modem in device manger
2)try plugging something else like a usb stick into the usb port your trying to use to change whatever is attached to that port OR try using a differant usb port.
3)8ta software - driver release notes looks like its 4.17 - i can upload it with drivers updated to 4.22 which seemed to help cellc dash with a few win7 issues.

Try the above & if it fails post back & i'll upload so you can try "3"

Edit:
On the back of this modem is Huawei not ZTE right?
