Hi,

i want to connect my ps3 with my pc, i've taken the advice of one our forumites and decided to try and install it on my own (noobie :) )

what do i require?

i have the network cable, i've downloaded the ps3 media server software.

Do i need a router or something (sorry if this sounds stupid i need to be sure)

so do i just plug in the cable to my ps3 and the other end to my pc and set up the network via ps3media server ???

could any of you guys show me a step by step guide perhaps ?

i'm blocked from most ps3 sites so if you could paste it here i would be gratefull,

thanks in advance

Ryu

If you don't have any networking hardware yet, you'll need a crossover Cat5 cable.

All you need is a network cable. It does not have to be crossover because I am using a normal lan cable. Make sure that you configure your firewall on your pc as well.
Connect the network cable between the PC & PS3 and start PS3 media server on your PC. It should be able to detect your PS3. You will also see the PS3 media server icon on your XMB under Video, Music & Photos.

i got a network cable from work, i'm sure that will do won't it ?

it's just a basic grey no name brand one that they use at our company

ok cool that sounds simple, i've disabled my firewall so do i still need to configure anything there ?

not a good idea to disable your firewall, just configure the Firewall program to allow for PS3 Media Server - this should be in the list of programs.
once this is done - goto to XMB on the PS3 and scan for Media Servers in Video, Music or Photos.
