Hey guys!

So I want to buy a media player for my GF's parents that supports Disney+ South Africa, as their TV is not "smart".

I don't want a chinese branded player that doesn't have the certifications for netflix/etc where I need to sideload APK's or whatever, I want a "certified" player that has official support for Netflix, Disney+[SA version], and Spotify.

I checked takealot for a cheap firestick but they seem to have grey imports and I see complaints where disney+ doesn't work (probably because we have a different version than the US store).

Does anyone have this firestick working with Disney+ SA?

Chrome browser? Costs nothing...
Their TV doesn't have a browser. I need something for their TV.

I don't know much about chromecast devices but it seems like you "mirror" your phone or something with a lot of these devices - NOT something I'm interested in. I need a device with an app store, that Disney+SA works on. (As well as netflix, and preferably in HD, not in 480p like a lot of cheap players do)

Hdmi cable. About R150
Connect a laptop.

Well there's this

@Dolby

Ematic is great. But I say find a 2nd hand apple tv ideally the 1st gen 4k even if they dont have a 4k tv. Works well

I think I'm going with the "Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max".

Problem is my GF's flight to her parents is on monday, and I can't find any damn brick and mortar stores that sells this thing (Not Hifi, not Makro, not even Incredible), so online delivery is my only option. I hope there is a next day delivery option available!

Why the insistence on the FireStick while the MiBox is available everywhere including Makro

Haven't used it, but looks good on paper. I'm using RealMe for the Google TV (and the native apps on my TV).

Just doesn't meet his requirement of the cheapest.

I've always hated the fact it wasn't local. People were getting the wrong Disney+ at one stage, and all sorts of hoops to get local apps like DSTV to work

Yeah the MI TV stick is certified and will run it, though it's only got a gig of RAM so can run a bit slow
Only the 1080 I think?

The 4K has 2GB which is fine for Android TV. I. Wouldn't want to save a few bucks and limit my resolution anyway

So if he goes that route, I'd go 4K for future proofing. Personally, I'd spend a few more bucks and get that Nova with 16GB Storage for future proofing as well

How did you download Disney+ onto your Ematic box?
I’m having trouble finding it on the App Store

Realme Stick is the cheapest I would spend money on, have bought, the Xiaomi Mi 4K TV Streaming Stick, and Fire TV 4k MAX Stick, recently. Been very happy with Mi-Box 3 in the lounge.

You can buy cheaper, but from my point of view you are doing yourself and your Family, a disservice by doing so.

You come home and need to relax, chill, and enjoy your off time. To me that does not equate to buying cheaper devices, that you press the remote button, count to 10, before you can press it again.

To me that equates to, annoying aggravating, time wasting - when all I want to do is relax, relax, relax, and enjoy.

I am not into punishing myself or my family members - because I want to save a few Rands.
