Hi guys,

The reason im posting is:
I would like to build a new PC that will be equipped for modern gaming!
Im looking in the range of R12000 for everything!
Could you guys please help in telling me what to/not to get!
It will be my first time building a PC so if yu guys have any tips or guides it would be grate!
Thanks in advance:)

PS:Look at post #5... It has more specifics!

You can buy a pretty decent PC for that price. Do you know how to assemble your own OC or are you looking for something already assembled that you can just plug in and use?

ok, pc's are pretty idiot proof in assembling them nowadays when you have the right parts... just DON'T EVERY force something into place, things should just slot into place(ram modules might need a little pressure to get into place)

also what do you want the pc to do? I'm guessing gaming as that's the main reason for spending 12g's on a pc...

so here we go:
case: R695
graphics card: R3975
HDD: R701
memory: R1042 (so that you have about 4 gig's of ram)
mobo: R1302
Dish Drive: R333
CPU: R3761
PSU:R875

total: R12714

but this is from 1 shop, you should shop around, some online shops are cheaper in certain area's

Hi guys,
Thanks for the help...
What i want you guys to tell me is what parts I must get... I can look around for prices and stuff..I am building myself.... more info on what i know what i want! Maybe you could inform what product and model number i should get:

RAM= 4GB
CPU= Some form of Quad Core
HDD= 250GB
Case= Attractive but under R800

Then, I have no knowledge what so ever about graphics cards!
I want something that could run crysis on High

I have also been told that I must spend lots on a motherboard so when I upgrade in the future I wont have compatibility issues!

Please help me
Thanks

ok, well so start with, most quad cores will do, HOWEVER, what i reckon you do it spend money on an AMD phenom 2 x4 940 as that is a good performer and sits with the Q9550 in games... you only need a good mobo if you overclocking, otherwise you don't need a monster one, and for that reason, i reckon you sound go with an AMD 790FX/GX mobo as that would overclock the amd cpu rather well... (and you can get them @ around R1000-R1500)

as for graphics, you gonna have to spend about R5000-R7000 on a monster gpu to get Crysis to run smooth on ultra ha ha,

um,about running Crysys on ultra high: not gonna happen with that budget or even dbl that..

also,do u have peripherals? cos depending on what monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers/headset u want the budget cud go up more..

my advice is don't go i7 Intel yet,still to costly unless u want bragging rights.. if u want a modern "gaming" pc then a e8500 cpu, 4gigs ram, gtx285 graphics card, 22" lcd and decent power supply will be a good gaming pc. get a good keyboard, mouse and headset as those define "comfort" for gaming.. the setup i listed above will still be good in 2-3 years..

my 2c :D

k
I thought ultra high was asking to much!
I would crysis to run at high
I already have keyboard, mouse,speakers and screen!

Hi guys,
I want something that could run crysis on High

....You're already deciding that?? Crysis is one of the worst developed games in existence. It is impossible to play it at 2560x1600 with the i7 965 (OCed), 4 GPU's and on high settings. You will get framerates of under 10 like that, and thats the best hardware imagineable for gaming. Now ... what I am saying is: do not make the standard of wanting to play crysis on high.

I would recommend the ATI Radeon HD 4870 for a graphics card. It is great value for money, and delivers great performance. If you really want Quad Core get the Intel Core2 Quadro Q9300 2.5ghz. It is also great value.

Do not get more than 2Gb RAM. This is one area you can save money on, because for gaming you will never need more than 2Gb (unless you're planning on running Vista even after Windows 7 is released - then you'll need 4Gb).

Get an Antec 900 as a case. Good price; great value.

If you're not overclocking you can just use the stock fan that comes with the CPU.

Get a PC & Power Silencer 500W Power supply. It will be able to run all the components I have suggested, and it is the most reliable Power Supply manufacturer.

Any cheap ASUS/Gigabyte motherboard that can run your CPU, store your RAM and GPU will do fine.

And I would recommend not getting lower than 500Gb for an HDD. It also has the best Rand/Gb ratio. And get Western Digital, not Seagate. Seagate is really faulty lately.

Just my 02 cents... :cool:

scotty's rig is pretty good, i would just spend R1000 or so less on that CPU and add it to the GFX card, and get the X2 (It's about R5000)

Ok here is my 2cents worth for a spec (I hve not taken prices into account) that I would build (infact I am currently trying to build this up):

* AMD Phenom II 940 CPU
* Asus M4A79T Deluxe motherboard (AMD 790FX/SB750 chipset)
* OCZ or Mushkin gaming series 2 x 2GB RAM (or 2x 4GB if you are running a 64bit OS)
* ATI Radeon 4870 X2 (2GB memory)
* 500GB Seagate HDD (with 32MB cache)
* 750 Watt Thermaltake Toughpower (Crossfire certified) PSU
* CoolerMaster CM690 case or Antec Nine Hundred case

I know most of you are going to say it does not match his budget, but this is my recommendation. I stuck with the AMD solution since upgrading does not involve a new mobo or memory - in most cases just a BIOS upgrade. Your most expensive part will be the graphics card - so you may want to go one model lower and get two set up in Crossfire X mode.

I would recommend using www.pricecheck.co.za to get a good idea of prices because of the price comaprison features the engine uses.

Happy hunting and shopping!

to start with, he only needs 4gig's of ram (32bit or 64bit OS), and it would be wise if he went with ram that has low timings, AMD's love low timings :).

secondly, that mobo is over kill, just get your average AMD 790fx or gx motherboard as those just go dam well with the phenom's and gaming(it owns cod4!)

that PSU does look a little over kill, I mean, a 650watt would be just fine, and the fact that there's about a R200-R400 difference between them(the graphics will use about 300watts, the cpu will use 125 watts at full load, the chipset will use 20 odd watts, the hdd and ram uses 10-20 watts, so if you get to 500 watts under peak load i'd be impressed)

and honestly, just get a nice simple case, anything over R1000 is just for bragging rights, which is not what a pc should be used for

@ scott777:

I know it maybe overkill - but looking @ the trend these days I built in a lot of room for upgrades (especially when the PSU is concerned with high end gfx cards). In addition, should he wish to add on more HDD's say in RAID mode then he oughta have more than enough power.
The mobo recommendation is based on latest AM3 support but yes he can change out to a lower spec. My suggestion is based on a total gamers experience.
BTW: the cases recommended are obtainable for about R8-900.

But then again its my goal system for the moment :)

but you must not tell the guy what you want, tell him what would be best ;)

TBH I havn't been lookin at the latest hardware, I've no idea how the new AMD compares to the new Intel etc.

Trust these guys :p

What you guys think?

Wouldn't a 500GB be better value per GB?
