Please help with buying gaming PC!

I have decided to rather go with the Q9450 and a silent knight LA cooler!

Lucky bugger. I couldn't get hold of one due to the supplier I had to deal with.

I have the P5Q as well. It's a nice motherboard. I just find that being passively cooled it runs a little warmer than some. I had to buy a second fan for my Coolermaster Elite 335 to keep motherboard temps below 50C under load.

Ya,
I have given it thought and think your suggestions are spot on!
The case,HDD and drive are all the ones im thinking of!

I know im taking a while to choose my parts but I dont want to f**k up like I did with my current laptop
I saw 4GB ram and dual core and thought it was amazing!
No research at all!
Anyway
I hope to make the purchase soon!

I like it. It's a well rounded setup, no real weak spots. You'll do well with it :)

Do you plan on overclocking at all? Cause then you might want to go for stronger gaming memory ... the OCZ memory isn't that much more than Jetram.

/OT ... By the way guys ... I'm back :) ... been so busy, and now I finally got time to come back and comment properly on the forums ;)

I think im actually getting Hynix 2.0GB DDR2 800MHZ CL5 PC6400 X2 ... UPDATED post!

Think I might just mosy on off this morning and get some upgrade parts for my PC...

This P4D920 that I'm running is getting a bit sluggish, and 2GB of ram just doesn't cut it anymore.

Seems not.

I got a PC for R10000 and this is what I built so you can do a bit better

Gigabyte Motherboard
Asus Radeon 4870 512MB
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.00GHz
(Quad core is not necessary for gaming only for very intense video editing etc)
4gb of Ram
Gigabyte Poseidon Case(original)
500GB HDD

oh and btw 4870 is totally worth the money if you are really going into the gaming scene!
I definitely dont regret buying the 4870! 4 gigs of ram is a definite yes. Power Supply I rate 750W ( dont want your PC to be short of power) ( I learnt the hard way) ( R1400 later) =[

(1) He's using the cheapest online pricing he can find.

(2) That is not true. There are games out that are multi-threaded and use all cores. Crysis and GTA IV to name a few.

Ahhh well.. PC Zone (in Durban) lost out on possibly a large deal this morning...

And ultimately I doubt any shop would have been able to do it...

I was kind of prepared to spend R10k there and then to get some new parts of my PC.... They don't keep stock, so would have to order.... and I'd only get the stuff in a few days at best...

Think in some ways a few shops are missing out on some business, because if they're going to take a few days to get me the parts.. I might as well buy online... and get it for similar or slightly cheaper amounts.

And it also means I have time to rethink whether I want to spend the money.... which is a bad thing for brick and mortar shops.
