Hi guys,

I recently had my laptop destroyed in a leak. I am getting a new one from the insurance company. They have said they are giving me a HP 530 series laptop. I have heard that this model has been discontinued. Does anyone know if its a good one or if it has been discontinued.

Thanks

What laptop did you have before... would not let an insurance company give me a new laptop

I bought the Packard Bell 2120 for R18000 in 2001. They tell me now that my laptop was outdated and this one he wants to give me is better than what i had. Maybe so, but when i bought mine it was the best there was on the market now i have to settle for an ordinary laptop.

I just got an HP 530 with 2gb ram and 2.16 core duo cpu for R6700.
They are very basic laptops, came with Vista Home basic so will have to see how long that stays on there.

So far i think it perfroms well for what i am using it. The usb ports is a bit of a PITA but other than that everything seems ok.

how does it work with insurance, arent they supposed to replace whats gone or broken with what the equivalent would be in today's market.

go for a sony vaio sz series laptop its in the R17000 price range its excellent or get a apple macbook pro, you wont go wrong trust me

I'm afraid you're going to have to read your contract with insurance company because computers lose value very quickly.

If you insured the laptop for R18k and paid premiums for 18k then surely they should replace it with a laptop worth 18k, but you never know. Chances are that cause it's an insurance company they will screw you over. :( That's the sad truth.
