So our area of Vanguard/Welcome estate went live on Thursday, I think. Now the problem is I live in a small complex, about 7 units. All these units are individually owned and therefore there's no body corporate. Octotel is the FNO in my area. I email them a bunch of times, including a few ISP'S too, just to find out if the fibre will be accessible to our complex as well. The thing is, Octotel have to trench and still have a plan of action as to how to go about this. All my neighbours in the complex don't have an issue with this, they'd gladly give their content for fibre but it seems Octotel just replies to my mails but never does anything further than that. Also, I personally don't even think trenching is necessary for our complex because of the layout of the complex. The grey fibre boxes was already installed outside our boundary walls so I don't really see why there'd be a delay, ( if someone can correct on this particular point, please do).

I would like for any representative of them, or even any FNO for that matter to come to meet us in person in order for us to make this dream a reality. Are there any Octotel reps or even isp reps that can help us with this please. We'd appreciate it a lot.

Are you sure you do not have at least Homeowners association then - Even if your complex is small and everyone owns but if it's basically walled off then it fall under probably a Full title complex.
How do you guys maintain the common area - I mean there must be at least a driveway to get to the individual units?

and yes this is relevant as Ocottel or any FNO won't touch you guys if your complex doesn't even have proper channels of communication in terms of liability etc

Hey, thanks for reply.

Nope no homeowners association as well. All the neighbours I've spoken to already gave their consent with regards to fibre being deployed to each unit. Also there is a drive way to accessible to each unit yes. Would you be able to tell me what the next logical step forward would be? Thanks!

So what happens if this driveway needs to be repaired - who pays?

Is fibre already live in the area surrounding your complex?

You mentioned fibre boxes installed on the boundary wall - as in 1 box or multiple?

HI guys, with regards to paving or maintenance around the complex....well all of us pay a certain fee eacharged month and that fee goes for maintenance around the place. This was the agreement we all agreed upon.

And yes the area went live in last week. So yes, the area around the complex is live. Yes multiple fibre boxes was installed outside the complex main boundary wall.

It seems that the FNO Octotel is uninterested in conneciting our complex. I may be wrong and I hope I am but that's the feeling I'm getting from their side.

So Like a levy :)
Lol you have a HOA - just not formalised - maybe something to think about :)

Ok then if you have multiple it looks as if you guys just need to contact an ISP and get your installation sorted -
you contact the ISP they will arrange installation from those fibre boxes to your home - depending on the ISP they may subsidies or charge you R1725 - that will be then paid from your ISP to Octotel.

See my comment above you need to connect the ISP. Although Octotel contractors are the ones that will install an ONT device from those Fibre boxes to your home - they leave that in the hands of the ISP - as its better for the ISP to collect the cost from you then the FNO to.

Thanks, bro. But trust me I've contacted Cool ideas, RSAWeb and Home-connect and not one of them have thus far managed to get me an installation. Why do you think the Octotel guys installed multiple fibre on the main boundary wall if they knew they wouldn't be able to make the complex go live alongwith the surrounding area?

What do they tell you is the issue?
Also just to confirm if you check the coverage map is you house in ready ?

Can you send a pic of the Fibre boxes?

From the way you describe it you not a complex they just assumed it a bunch of private houses and stuck the boxes there

The only response I get back from the ISP'S is that they can't confirm whether fibre is actually live in the complex itself. This is so frustrating! I was so hoping that by now somebody would be able to help me.

And yes when I check the coverage map for fibre for the complex it says yes fibre is ready.

best bet is to point that out to the ISP , maybe just needs to get your address added , look at a smaller ISP maybe, they will go the extra mile for you since for them compared to the bigger ones (IMO) each customer counts a littler more.

Mind the speed did something similar for me with Vumatel unfortunately I don't see them as an ISP on Octotel , Roketnet though i see does, they have helped a friend out with a similar issue.

Really? What made your friend's situation so different? If you don't mind sharing please? As you've just given me some glimmer of hope. Anyway, it looks like the chairperson of the complex ain't interested in fibre. You know what old people are like. He did however give consent and said that if I want fibre installed in my unit he won't have a problem with that. Can this happen though?

Very crazy situation. What happens when the driveway gate goes bust?

What happens when a tree falls over the driveway?

What happens with electric fencing? Who pays for electric fencing? And the electricity?

I'm sorry for taking a turn on what the question is, but I stay in a complex, and am a trustee. So not having a common bank account for which to take these expenses from is beyond me.

my friend was a flatlet of a home in a complex but the main address was on the system but no fibre installed and the flatlet wasn't an actual address complicated but no one want to to do it, rocket net tried and got it right.
mine was our guard house other isp didnt want to try MTS said they would and got it right.

Like i said call them and say your address is on the map and there are junction boxes, they just need to run the cable to the unit, sadly for some people fibre is a mission to get installed , makes you wonder do these providers even want the business

So you have a chairman oke so there is a BC or HOA :)

Exactly...

He sounds a little confused.

But I think the fact that there is so few units might work against him. We have 18 units, and vuma jumped at the chance to set up inside

I wouldn't exactly call him a chairperson. He's just the guy that does the odd stuff around the complex that's all. I get the feEling though that it's more octotels fault rather than the isp. They are reluctant to enter the premise even with owners consent.
