My afrihost connection has become unbearably slow. Worst data rate I got: 0.09MBs/s at a Friday evening, but I pay for 30MBs/s of LTE network. When I contact Afrihost, they ask me to do all sorts of stupid things, including resetting my router to default, this didn't work. They try to switch their capacity problems to me. No, thank you!View attachment 621170
Dumb question, but are you sure it isn't the tower being congested? Otherwise why not jump to a different provider?

It is odd that you mentioned that you are having issues with shaping on your package. We only shape on premium packages if there is a load on our network. As far as I know, we haven't been having any issues that I know of. Please send me a PM with your account information and I will look into this for you.
My latency at times reached 100 ms plus at times with download speed of less than 2Mbps. I cant remember that i ever had a full 4 Mbps download. My average is around 3 Mbps. When i phoned the support i was told it is due to shaping as i reached my limit and i am being shaped. My other question is regarding teh Openserv fiber speed as 4Mbps is no longer available yet you keep delivering on 4Mbs. I have cancelled and wil lstart with another ISP end of this month, higher speed and lower cost.

ok cool, PM sent,
but would be awesome if you could harvest this from the app itself?
so I can see what numbers you already has,

also another thing, is there a way for the afrihost app to have a widget showing amount of gigs left on your profile?
would be awesome.

Thanks for the PM! We will probably be incorporating widgets soon.

We are doing a forum survey on how happy subscribers are with their ISP, and it will be great if you can rate Afrihost based on value-for-money, network quality, and general service satisfaction.

Also please tell us what Afrihost does well, and where they can improve, by posting in this thread.

We have been with Afrihost for nearly 2 years. No complaints. Even at 4mbps speed we can watch videos, etc., with no problem, except on occasions it may be a little slow, but we put it down to the weather or Eskom. It usually comes right. The online self-service portal is great. When I have had a query, it has been answered quickly and followed up. Will stay with Afrihost as long as the prices don't increase!

Pathetic, they never resolve anything. Very seldom answer the tickets. And when they do it’s a total nightmare. They always blame customer, somebody else or something else. Before you talk to them, make a provision for a trip to a psychiatrist.

They are 100% efficient in collecting monthly payments.

But don’t despair; every other provider is the same. It’s the state of the country which is on the way to hell.

Afrihost used to have great customer service. However, the farce with my fibre installation was unacceptable with service levels on par with Telkom.....

Hopefully this was a fluke, I pretty much had to sort my own Fibre connection out with the infrastructure people

Proactive monitoring and notifying paying(!) clients that there's an outage in their F2H would be awesome

My 4mb line syncs at less than 2mbps and apparently this is acceptable according to Afrihost. In fact, my speeds were quicker three years ago when it was only a 2mb line. Absolute joke.

No, that isn't good at all. Please send me a PM and I will look into this for you.

I've had several cases where I lost connectivity. Contacting support always ends in the same conversation... Have you tried restarting the ONT and the router.

There is usually a statement from them along the lines of "Everything looks fine on our side, it must be your router".

The restarting thing has also moved to the magic numbers game where I'm told to turn the router and ONT off and leave them off for magic-number-minutes (in case anyone was wondering the last known magic number is 15).

Since the last (rather hostile) call logged for down time it's been a couple of months with no down time... guessing this time something was changed on their side or on MetroFibre's side to improve the line stability.

Finally... I recently changed from a 10/10 line to 25/25. Previously I always maintained full line speed up and down... with the 25/25 line I get the full 25 upload speed but rarely see the 25 download speed... considering switching back to 10/10.

The fact you are struggling with your speed so much is not good at all. Have you done any traceroute tests at all?

Are you really sure this it the best thread for you to be active in?

I'm on a Fiber package from Afrihost via Vumatel. The overall service is great, but things fell apart dramatically during the recent load shedding. We were effectively without Internet for just over 4 days. Afrihost was not willing to provide a discount of any sort for the lost 4 days. I also don't have the best confidence in that Vumatel fully sorted out the problem, but I guess we have to wait for the next round of load shedding to test it.

I am so sorry about the load-shedding issues. I know that there were a lot of clients that were affected. We have been chatting with Vumatel and they are doing everything they can make sure that clients are affected as little as possible.

I am so sorry that you are struggling with your connection. On our LTE-A fixed wireless service, we mention that we offer speeds from 10 to 50 Mbps.

I really do want to help you. I will get somebody to call you regarding this. Please send me a PM with your email address and we will get this sorted out for you.

Oh no! That really sounds horrible. Are you still having issues with your connection at all?

With the launch of our new app that is coming out soon, we'll be sure to be informing clients more often as to what is happening in their areas.

I have been with Afrihost for a number of years. First had an adsl&modem from Telkom then switched to Afrihost on recommendation. Have now done away with Telkom line and use a wi-fi modem from Afrihost on Cell C network. I have always found them to be an excellent ISP. The help desk is always responsive and I appreciate having a number of different ways of contacting them. They might want to look at being more accessible over weekends as this is when most home users are on line.NeilR

No problems in general - what would be nice though is if we could "reset" our fibre link at the Afrihost side. Two or three times now, my link has gone down after hours. Whatsapp does not work after 17h00, and I know by now that something is reset on Afrihost's side, and seconds later the link is back. Maybe through the Client Zone?

We are on a 10 mbps 40 Gb per month, . We don't alway use all the data. When we were on an adsl line, this was carried over to the next month. It is not happening with the fibre. Why is this?

Service is worse than Telkom.
Helpdesk/support is a joke:
- they never read tickets and if by chance you a get a reply days/weeks later they reply with stupid questions.
- tickets get closed
- always blaming Telkom lines/equipment; never take responsibility or acknowledge their infrastructure is to blame even when you provide them with proof.
Had to take them to the ISPSA twice to stop them from spamming me.
Long history of charging for products and services they know they cannot supply.
Never recieved a single cent of compensation for lack of services.
Their hosting is a total joke (mails get lost/blocked at random/servers unavailable for no reason)

Afrihost and OpenWeb share the worst ISP possible spot - would only recommend them to someone I really hate.
They were a year late on installation. I wanted what they had promised... needless to say they have consistently delivered below what they promised. To watch Netfix is a joke... they choke me on weekends and at month ends the speed is so slow that I can not even do a speedtest and this is on a 20 Mbs link.
