Rain is working well overall, when they are not shaping you to bits. Their fixed LTE-A runs at a nice 5mbit when it is working. I use it for a backup connection, but what is extremely frustrating, is when you try to download large files. The connection will run full speed for about 5 mins, then drop to 512k, performing worse than my ADSL. Seriously, when you give someone a fixed amount of data, don't go shape them on top of that as well. That seriously sucks.

I can understand if its contention, but this is not it. The speed drops like running over a cliff, wham, down to 10% of original download speed. If you are going to use it for a normal connection, it should perform fine. It is stable and overall performs as expected, except for this issue. If you want something with constant speed, rather go for Cell C or, I can't believe I am saying this, Telkom.

Oh and I forgot, v limiting not being able to receive calls or even OTP or sms if one doesn't have dual sim phone.
I have to keep my Vodacom sim around me wherever I go and swop/change when required.

Big  there.

They had some problems from the beginning that I could live with. Like, they route everything through Jo'burg and I'm in Cape Town, so if I access another host locally, my traffic has to travel all the way to the other side of the country and back. I could kind of live with that, but then the service just gradually deteriorated. What's worse is, when you encounter something like a routing error, you can't report it. The ISPs get this stupid sheet where all they do is tell the use to keep rebooting the router, checking that the sim card is seated and resetting the router to factory settings. It's bad enough that the service went as bad as it did, but their support is so bad that it should be illegal to provide that level of non-service. Unfortunately I can't recommend RAIN to anyone at all, best to avoid unless you have absolutely no other alternative.
You do know Rain is iburst/iburp with a new colour rain coat...

It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had…

Anybody else experiencing really bad connections the last 2 weeks. I'm using Rain LTE through Afrihost and the service has been really terrible the last 2 weeks. The last week even more so, been down for 3 days in the last week with no reason or explanation. Does anyone know whats going on, Afrihost support is very bad and just say they don't know.

Yup same here, speeds and the connection seems to be terrible. Most times it disconnects and simply refuses to re-connect to the network and when it does speeds rarely exceed 3mbps
