I'm looking for IP wireless security cameras, that i can use at home. as i live in complex, i recently got a Jack Russell, but my gate is where a lot of traffic [cars and pedestrians] go past, and lately i've noticed that my dog is UNBELIEVEBLY scared of going close to that gate. Ive also found some rocks and broken tiles in my yard. This led me to believe that someone is throwing my dog with stones and stuff

So i'm looking for an IP wirells camera [2-3 would be ideal, if not too expensive], that has motion detection and that i can access over the internet, but i have absolutely no experience in what to look at.

I've looked at this, but it doesn't seem like this is IP cameras.
Here

If you've had some experience with what works best, please recommend something for me to have a look at!

Much appreciated.

Why not get a cheapie DVR with 4 cameras and just watch the movie when you get home?

I'm away from home for +- 8-10 hours a day, so really don't feel like going through all those hours of video!

If its IP and can has motion detection, i can set it up so that it will only record when someone is at my gate, and if it can mail me, i will be able to then have a look at the video when i get home.

Set the DVR to only record on motion then watch the playback at 4x or 8x

Do you have ADSL? Static IP? if not, Dynamic DNS. Do you mind streaming between 2 to 10megs a minute of video each time your dog takes a poop or a bird flies past a motion area?

There are 3g options but I have never researched them.

Had a similar issue in my last flat, kids were throwing crackers and stones at my dogs, I just put my webcam out the window and used some free software I found on the net (vitamin e or something) to use my pc as a dvr.
Put the video onto dvd's and gave all the parents in the complex a copy.

It's a bloody pain, I feel for you but you will need to record it anyway or nobody will believe there angels are capable of this.

Must say I also got a mail yesterday about the ubiquiti aircam solution and it does look pretty sweet.

Cool, this sounds like a solution, what cameras did you use?

as I said, for that particular incident I only used a cheapie webcam (easy enough as all I had to point it at was the driveway and gate, no other space).

I would suggest you go check out the esquire pricelist if you want to go wired or wireless. In my experience wired is better (and cheaper) but they sell IP and wireless cameras at pretty good prices.

What size area do you want to cover?
how many cameras do you want in the long run?

Remember you can get camera bodies with zoom lenses so that the cameras do not need to be far from the house.

edit: be careful of these 4camera specials at game and similar, no DVR capabilities = useless.

Try this company: SecurityCamera2000
They're well-known in the radio-control FPV (First Person View) community.

I've bought smaller cameras and lenses from them and the service is excellent. You also won't find it cheaper locally.
Here's their IP Cameras.

A word of advice about vitamin d (misplaced though it may be in this place..): it will pull a low-end pc down into a horribly laggy mess; put it on a pc with decent CPU/RAM. Bizkit: how far is your gate from the place you get the best image/coverage; how easy is said place to use? Latter question goes to whether you can just aim a cheap(er) webcam at the gate or have to go IP. Also, if it came to that, I wouldn't go wireless: you have to get power to a camera anyway so it may as well be over CAT5 - PoE FTW!

Axis cameras are regarded as quality, but tend to be expensive.

Weird, because I see several IP cameras there. You looking at the correct section?

An Internet protocol camera, or IP camera, is a type of digital video camera commonly employed for surveillance, and which unlike analog closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras can send and receive data via a computer network and the Internet.

Oh, and how important if full-motion video (FMV)? You for sure get it on an Axis but, as Lounger said, yes they *are* pricey (but OH so lovely!)

Hey, thanks for the replies

My gate is next to a garage, so its about a 2m wide area, and thats the only place where outsiders can see into my yard, so i just want to cover that area,

I don't need full motion, i just want to be able to see if someone is standing at my gate, and throwing my dog with stuff, so that i can go and lay down the law on that douche.
