Have not tried HD, it was SD content at 30fps. But that is besides the point, you need to simplify. Don't make things comPLEX. Just get a TV and Kodi and you're sorted.

Why watch SD on a TV? Just use your phone.

Is your Roku connected wirelessly or via and Ethernet cable?

Have you fiddled with the transcoding setting on the Roku Plex App to see if that makes a difference?

What's the size of the .mkv you're having trouble with?

Roku is wireless on dedicated 5Ghz WiFi channel. the .mkv is only 1.2 MB. If I load it onto a flash and plug it direct into the USB on the Sammy, it plays fine.

1.2MB - you sure it's not playing so quickly that you're missing it :D

Jokes aside, I presume you meant 1.2Gig - that is odd. If you access that movie/tv show via the Plex Player (which is a piece of ****e) on your PC, does it play or does it only give problems on the Roku?

LOL, 1.2GB...... Been a long week. I cant see it in the Plex server, although it is in the series directory. Probably a naming std as others have indicated. I will read up on it a bit this weekend and see if it changes anything.

Ahh, so it's in the directory, but Plex isn't picking it up.

Post a screenshot of the directory with the offending file

Edit: I use Sonar to rename all the files correctly - need to remember that Sonar won't rename if Plex has the file locked - usually not a problem since Plex will release it after indexing, but if it is, I usually just exit Plex (right click on the icon down at the bottom), let Sonar do it's thing, and then restart Plex.

Boet, go to the Plex icon in the bottom right of your Windows taskbar, right click and update library.

Heh, reason I'm asking for a s/s is it's happened to me before - ie file ends up in a different directory (same naming convention but a different drive) and because your eye "auto corrects" you don't pick up that you havent actually configured Plex to scan that directory - much head scratching then ensues...:D

I actually have to update my library every time as I see it is not auto updating with this recent install of mine. Is it just me or does an update to your existing Plex mess things up?

Try making a "Home Videos" collection if all else fails and drop it in there. Should ignore the naming convention then.

Nope, doesn't mess anything up on my side.

It just 'weks'

I have Sonar as well, but ditched it when it would pick up Utorrent. Will see if I have any luck.

I see there are tons of tools that will do this. http://www.therenamer.com/ is one.

Noooooooooo, The Renamer is kuk compared to what Sonar does - you just need to configure Sonar properly (eg to not use uTorrent, etc)

I have Sonar - SABNzbD - Plex all working in concert - the only time I have to intervene is if I download something 'manually'* in SAB - then I do the following:

1. Stop Plex
2. [-]Copy[/-] Move file into relevant directory
3. Rescan directory in Sonar - run the Sonar "auto rename" function
4. Restart Plex (it auto scans)

Profit

* In fact, I only have to do steps 1-4 if (when) I forget to label the download as belonging to the TV category when I initiate a 'manual' download

What? That is not reason enough to ditch such a lovely application.
