you need to pick a direction and stick to it. If you're gonna go the SysAdmin/Analyst role of the MCSE, I would definitely combine with with some kind of Linux certification. Since in many corporations today the two are living next to eachother and a key person is someone who can seamlessly integrate and support the two.

if you go the networking route, go the whole way and do router, switch, firewall etc certification and then either stay that way or swing into a security role (with emphasis on networking)

It comes down more to what you enjoy rather than salary in my mind. And try Self-Study guides, I know of people who heading up network dept for large corporations who got everything via self-study and experience. Granted it requires oober amounts of self-control, but its far easier on the budget.

+1
You also gain a deeper understanding when you're tackling the stuff by yourself.

I would suggest doing your MCSE first as this makes you much more employable then doing a CCNA.

When you have your MCSE and already working in the industry you can do your CCNA and CCNP if you want to specialize in that direction.

Prices from 2KO

CCNA 5 days R 6 495
CCNP 4 weeks R 19 995

CCNA and CCNP 5 weeks R 24 995

I think I'll take the 11 Jan 2009 sitting for 5 weeks CCNA+CCNP

Good choice or should I just do the CCNA and then do CCNP after I did the CCNA exam ?

edit:

Sorry for got to add this part

Included in the course fee is:

• Quality and excellent training

Another question if I may

This excersize is going run me out of pocket for about R 35 000. I need to know if it's a worth while field to spend R 35k on. I don't want just another certificate to dangle on my bar wall :p

Applied for a voluntary package which is pretty good, I was about to resign anyway. Now I'll be getting out around R 80k more than just resigning ;)

Yes but how "sane" is that if you only have money till June 2009!?!?!?!

no no.

I have funds to carry me till June without me making a cent from the CCTV business which rakes in a pretty penny, nothing to write home about but I would say bout 50% of a gross salary the last 3 months. So if I have to top that up for the next year at 50% I should see myself through till 2011.

Worse case scenario only till June 2010.
