Plugg Uncapped ADSL Feedback

@Janitor - I see that I've managed to get myself to 3 stars :o

Do the stars reset at the end of the month?

Apologies if you've answered this type of question before or there is an FAQ - would appreciate being redirected. Thanks

:-)

If you look three messages up (#921), you will notice a link I've posted to a previous posting of mine that explains all of this.

No, they work on a rolling 7 day window.

I'm on 4 stars :)

I've been on uncapped since "free the web".

I've now got to the point where I have run out of things to download and am just keeping current.

EDIT: K - I put some effort in and found some more stuff :) The next challenge is HDD space...

Am curious tho to find out how to get to 5 stars?

3 stars isn't bad tho...

Fingers crossed that Telkom will upgrade the speed (4mb max - G.dmt - at the mo, attainable 12mb) and that the ISP (Plugg) will start offering IPTV (with int DNS) and will give DSTV Premium (which I keep for F1/Rugby/Cricket) a run for their money.

Hmm I'm down to 3 stars :( Guess all the steam specials catching up with me...

I don't quite understand what this actually means though? Lower priority for my traffic?

Only when the network is under load, hence my request for a monitor of sort.

I have kept my day time activity to a minimum (8am-12am) which has brought me up to 4 stars. To be fair, the lowest I know I got to was 2 stars and everyting was still peachy (8am-5pm, then unshaped bliss), tho I don't youtube and download during the day (8am-5pm), but browsing was still snappy as normal and if I chose to check out a YT clip, it was still possible, albeit at a lower res, so what ;) Consumer uncapped and all.

EDIT: Still better than Mweb (shaping), Openweb (constant account switching), Afrihost (shaping) and (old)Webafrica - still wonder what the difference between WA and Plugg are as both threads are very quiet, prob like Plugg say is lower contention ratio (as they advertise) and we get more for more?

Thanks for the info. WA are changing back to IS, so that's competition for plugg then?

WA already moved back to us, IS, earlier in the year.

Remember that Plugg is the consumer arm of Internet Solutions, where WA is one of our many resellers.

No Issues here...everything is going smoothly - great stuff Plugg!

All good here :)

I have created a speedtest.net account and adjusted the way my results display.

One thing I have noticed is if I log out of my account with another ISP for example for an extended period of time, I log in again eventually which ends up applying a new IP for me, which seems to change the routing as now I am getting a higher ping. It seems random when I do this as sometimes it's sub 200ms, sometimes around 210ms and now around 220-230ms.

Sorry blaaislaai:

It seems there are not many 10mb users here, coz it's quite pricey I assume. Seeing I'm not blessed with the option, all I can say that if I was, I wouldn't hesitate in sticking with them. 4mb has been such a blast, I can only assume 10mb would be the same. You get what you pay for hey?

Here are my line stats:

Mode: ADSL_G.dmt
Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 301 260
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 200 100
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 12256 1188

So, one can only wish for ADSL 2+ I guess.

Bear in mind that Plugg work on the star system, which means u should really leave your heavy downloading for 12-6am, if you do that, you will have perfectly functional internet the rest of the time.

Been a customer since Nov, and haven't regretted it one bit since then. Maybe one or two hiccups but that is where the "up to" in ADSL is supposed to mean, not how Telkom bastardise the term.

I can compare Plugg to OW gold or better, as my gold account would fall over every now and then even though I followed IS's 12-6am rule and left the line idle during the day. I got tired of switching accounts that where supplied through support and can proudly say that I still have my original Plugg ADSL details that actually sport my own name!

Rock solid!

Thanks Wingnut771, I am actually looking to get myself the 10mb package eventually. Only when/if they bring out a package that only supports 1 concurrent connection, which will cheaper.

Glad to see you are experiencing zero issues!
