Hi Guys

I just had my plumbing COC done and they nailed my on some issues so just need to find out if it valid issues:

Below is directly quoted by company

HOT WATER GEYSER INSTALLATION IN ROOFSPACE
HOT WATER GEYSER – 150 LITRE DUROTHERM GEYSER - 600 KPA
COLD WATER INLET VALVE – 400 KPA WATERTECH PRESSURE VALVE

1. Extend 15 mm polycop pipe for pressure valve overflow pipe to the outside for visibility purposes when faulty
2. Extend 22 mm copperpipe for TP overflow pipe for visibility purposes to the outside when faulty

hmm, good idea to be able to see these overflow pipes as a warning that something is not right. BUT, I see quite a few installations where the overflow pipes now simply run into the geyser drip tray and that overflow pipe is extended to the outside.

What's the difference between 1. and 2. ?

BTW. I've been told the overflow should be copper piping - by law.

The first one is the connected to the pressure control valve on the cold water line. Being on the cold water line, Polycop piping can be used.
The second one is the TP valve (Temperature and Pressure safety valve )and that one must be copper OR Polymer provided the Polymer pipes comply with the new SANS spec for polymer piping suitable for use on hot and cold water lines.

The SANS spec for geyser installations is SANS 10254.

Here is a very good new reference (2016) on Geyser safety etc, with all the SANS references included.

No 2. Is Valid. TP valve connection must be 22 mm Cu pipe that exits the roof space. May not go to drip tray.

Need a plumbing certificate as well when selling or new building for occupation certificate.

Even out here in the waste lands of Camperdown they wanted one.

New construction I can believe but bokka1 says it's needed in CPT I'm assuming on property sale. Wonder which provinces, I know Pest is mainly the coastals only.
