I need to establish a wifi connection to my buds house (<1km).

Telkom has an exchange in his area and I who live just outside the area "dunnu" have an exchange and Telkom has no plans to build one.

I cant see his house from mine but I was hoping a non line of site wifi antenna could help.

The local internet cafe can do the same thing but wants a R2500 installation fee for the hardware and R1000 per month for a 1Mbps connection.

I am guessing that they will throttle it anyways and that I would never get what I was paying for.

Anyone know of a good site i could read on how to set this up?

The thinking is I pay for his line upgrade to 4Mbps and then i use his internet via wifi.

Thanks guys

Will you let me know what you find out about achieving this and the cost, as im interested in doing the same thing with a mate of mine. Thanks

You need LOS for SXTs to work. Put them on poles each side until you have LOS. A 6m pole is under R300 delivered.

This setup will give you roughly a 100mbit connection.

I have a 2.9Km link with two SXT's, plenty of trees and houses in the way but link stable and I get around 2.9Mbps download speed, equal to about a 32Mb link you could say. Over shorter distances with LOS you will get full 100Mbps speeds, and this is with the entry level SXT, not the new high power ones

Saw a post on the CTWUG site...a guy selling nanostation's.

Where is this place?
If you stand on your roof can you see his roof?

You really don't provide much details.
